Prabhas Biography

Born to an illustrious film family of U. Suryanarayana Raju and Siva Kumari, Prabhas is the youngest of his three siblings, Prabodh and a sister, Pragathi. He is the nephew of Telugu actor Krishnam Raju. His family is from Mogalturu village but later moved to Bhimavaram in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh.

Prabhas began his career with Eeswar in 2002. The following year, he bagged a lead role in Suresh Krishna’s film Raghvendra. He then went on to star in several films like Varsham, Adaavi Raamudu, Chakram, Billa, Chatrapathi, Pournami and many others. He also appeared in romantic comedy films like Darling (2010) and Mr Perfect (2011).

In 2012, the actor starred in Raghava Lawrence’s action film Rebel but the film became a commercial failure. He then appeared in Mirchi which became one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of the year 2013. He also made a short cameo in the 2012 action comedy film Denikaina Ready.

In 2014, Prabhas made his Hindi cinema debut in a cameo role in the item number ‘Punjabi Mast’ from the film Action Jackson. However, in 2015, he appeared as Shivudu/Mahendra Baahubali and Amarendra Baahubali in SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali: The Begining. The film went on to become the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film to date. It also started a new film movement named Pan-India films.

He then reprised his role in its sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), which became the first Indian film ever to gross over ₹1,000 crores (US$155 million) in all languages in just ten days. The film is also the second highest-grossing Indian film to date. The 41-year-old actor even bagged the SIIMA Award for Best Actor (Telugu) for his performance in The Conclusion.

Prabhas then appeared in Sujeeth Reddy’s action thriller film Saaho opposite Shraddha Kapoor. The film went on to become a box office hit despite unfavourable reviews.

Currently, the star has two films under his production romantic drama Radhe Shyam and the Prashanth Neel directorial action film Salaar. He will also be seen in the titular role in Aadipurush, an adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana. The film is helmed by Om Raut. The south superstar will also feature in Nag Ashwin’s untitled sci-fi film opposite Deepika Padukone.
