The magnum opus was the fifth film in the Cop Universe and the third installment in the Singham franchise. It marked the reunion of Ajay and director Rohit Shetty after seven years, as they last worked together in 2017’s Golmaal Again. As Ajay and Rohit’s combination is known for delivering back-to-back box office winners over the years, expectations from this biggie were sky-high. Also, Singham’s brand value, extended cameos, Salman Khan’s special appearance, and the Diwali festive season were the plus points. Unfortunately, it failed to reap these factors to its full potential.

Despite a clash with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Singham Again earned a huge 43.70 crore net at the Indian box office on day 1. However, afterward, the tables were turned. In the opening week, it earned 186.60 crores, and eventually, it wrapped up its theatrical run at 270.60 crores. Considering the budget of 340 crores, this was an underwhelming total.

Directed by Amar Kaushik, the Stree sequel was released in theatres on August 15, 2024. Upon its release, the film opened to positive reviews and even fared extremely well among audiences. Riding high on positive word-of-mouth and strong buzz on the ground level, it saw an extraordinary theatrical run and stayed in theatres for well over two months.

Despite a clash with Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa, Stree 2 performed like a solo release and ripped off the Indian box office left, right, and center. On the opening day itself, the film surprised everyone by registering a fantastic start of 64.80 crores (including paid previews’ 9.40 crores). High hopes were pinned on this year’s Eid releases, but none of the films raked in good moolah at the Indian box office. We witnessed two big films, Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan, clashing during the Eid festive season, and both biggies tanked miserably. There was a scope for Ajay’s film to work at ticket windows, but it failed to capitalize on the positivity around it.

Directed by Amit Sharma, the biographical sports drama was released in theatres on 10 April 2024. Based on the life of legendary Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, the biggie opened to mostly positive reviews from critics. Even the ticket-buying audience gave it a thumbs-up. Unfortunately, this favorable response didn’t translate to numbers at ticket windows, and the film turned out to be a major failure.

Maidaan was an underperformer right from the opening day. It started its journey by earning just 7.25 crores (including paid previews). During the extended opening weekend of 4 days, the film earned just 19.55 crores. In the first extended week of 8 days, it amassed 25.45 crores. It did show some momentum after the opening week, but it was not of much use as the lifetime total went up to just 53 crores.

Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya is one of the valuable successes for Bollywood in 2024. Before the release, there were minimal expectations for the film, but its performance left everyone surprised. In the lifetime run, it turned out to be one of the most successful rom-coms at the Indian box office in the post-pandemic era.

Directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah, the film was released on 9th February. It received mixed reviews from critics, but among audiences, the romantic comedy fared well. This Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon starrer enjoyed the benefits of Valentine’s week and the ticket booking offers.

Hrithik Roshan’s much-awaited Fighter was released on the eve of Republic Day. Loaded with some really high expectations, the magnum opus failed to perform on the expected lines. It did enter the 200 crore club at the Indian box office but couldn’t get that clean success verdict in its theatrical run due to its really high budget. Keep reading to know more!

The action thriller marked the third collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and director Siddharth Anand after the success of Bang Bang and War. As their previous two films were big money spinners, expectations were really high from this one. Reactions from critics were mostly positive, and word-of-mouth was more inclined in favor. However, the niche genre of aerial action restricted the film to just urban centers. As a result, the collection remained much below expectations.

On day 1, Fighter earned 24.60 crores and did a good job by raking in 123.60 crores during the 4-day extended opening weekend. However, there were some big drops during weekdays, and the 8-day extended opening week ended at 149.35 crores. Towards the end, the film crossed 200 crores and ended the theatrical journey at 215 crores.

Prabhas is back in the form with his highly-anticipated Salaar. After a long time, he managed to score a box office victory, and it’s great to see him enjoying big numbers at the Indian box office. Speaking about the Hindi dubbed version, it has put an impressive total on the board and has emerged as a clean Hit. And remember, it pulled off such a performance in a clash with Dunki.

Salaar marked the debut collaboration between Prabhas and director Prashanth Neel. As Neel was coming fresh from the historic success of KGF Chapter 2, expectations were sky-high. Amid a huge buzz, the magnum opus arrived in theatres on 22nd December 2023 and faced direct competition from Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki, which was released in theatres a day earlier.

Upon its release, Salaar opened to mixed reviews from critics but was appreciated by mass movie lovers. In the Hindi belt, it was well-supported in the mass centers, and that’s why the Hindi dubbed version managed to do good business at the Indian box office. Shah Rukh Khan ended his 2023 on a fantastic note as his third release of the year, Dunki, also turned out to be successful at the Indian box office. Of course, expectations were very high after the historic collections of Pathaan and Jawan, but comparing this film with SRK’s previous two action entertainers would be unfair.

Dunki marked the debut collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani. Upon its release on 21st December 2023, the dramedy opened to mixed reviews from critics, and even the audience’s reaction was mixed. It also faced stiff competition from Prabhas’ Salaar and suffered a dent due to the division of screens. Still, the film managed to emerge a clean success.

Dunki wasn’t a regular Friday release and arrived on Thursday. On the opening day, it faced no challenge from Salaar and minted 29.20 crores. Finally, the wait ended for Akshay Kumar and his fans as the actor got a much-needed box office success in the form of OMG 2. Released in a clash with Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, the satirical comedy-drama did well and enjoyed strong word-of-mouth. As a result, not just 100 crores, but the film also hit the 150 crore milestone in India.

Directed by Amit Rai, the OMG sequel opened to positive reviews and audience feedback upon its release. Before its release, the film was surrounded by tons of controversies and there were doubts about its performance at ticket windows. However, when the content was out for the audience, the performance at the box office took everyone by surprise.

OMG 2 opened with decent numbers as it raked in 10.26 crores. After that, the film grew over the opening weekend by posting a healthy total of 43.11 crores. It eventually ended the run at 150 crores at the Indian box office.
