The Sonic franchise is one of the most important ones in the video game medium, and it has, since its beginnings, been at the forefront of it, thanks to the creation of one of the most endearing mascots for any brand. Since its creation, Sonic has gathered quite a following, and it feels surreal to be the third entry in what is now a very successful film franchise for the Sega mascot. This third outing is the best yet, with director Jeff Fowler confident enough to go all out.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Review: Script Analysis

Past Sonic films have suffered from being too much like other family films that combine live-action actors with digital creatures. Some of these films are genuinely awful, like the Smurf films. The first two installments of Sonic on the Big Screen also had a bit of that flavor, as the script forced the story to give importance to the human characters, which was a mistake because no one was paying a ticket to see them.

However, in the last third of the second film, Fowler realized the franchise’s potential by delivering powerful action sequences that felt like something from the games. So, this third film leans on that sensation given by the third act of the second film, and it is much better for it. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles and their relationship as a team is the core of the story, and while some human characters appear here and there, they are pushed to the back as they always should have been.

Shadows, the new boy in town, also gets a ton of screen time, solid backstory, and character development. Most importantly, it keeps him in the cool zone by giving him many powerful moments. Overall, the plot is quite cliché, and you can see each of the story beats coming from a mile away. Yet, it feels like an improvement over the other films because the protagonists are precisely who we want to see in that position, and everything else has been filtered out.

The dialogue can sometimes fall into cringe territory thanks to a constant flow of pop-culture references that will date the film too much as time passes. There are also a couple of comedic sequences by Jim Carrey that feel too dated.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Review: Star Performance

Jim Carrey is the film star; of course, he is the biggest name tied to a live-action character, in this case, Dr. Robotnik, and he does well at giving one of his signature performances. Carrey plays to characters this time, and the gimmick works because, while similar, the characters are also quite different. It feels right to see such a comedy legend back in action, even if it is for a paycheck gig.

However, the voice actors playing the actual main characters, Schwartz, Elba, O’Shaughnessy, and Reeves, shine in this film. Their performances are great, and while Reeves’ voice is too similar in tone to the one he uses in the video game Cyberpunk 2077, you get used to it pretty fast, and Shadow becomes a perfect addition to the character roster. Everyone does an excellent job, including Elba, who also shines with some great speeches, even when his character, Knuckles, is definitely more in the background than the others.

Fowler is also one of the movie’s stars; even if he doesn’t appear on-screen, you can feel that the first-time director of the first Sonic film has grown quite a lot in this Sonic journey. The film feels countless times leaner and meaner than the previous films, and Fowler’s confidence is evident when the film waits no time to throw us into the action in sequences that feel effortless and entertaining.

Several action sequences in the film explore the anime side of the Sonic franchise, and each one is film-right, epic, and has lots of cool moments. Sonic fans will be screaming and cheering as the movie delivers reference after reference from the games, but never in an intrusive way. The epic factor is quite big, especially thanks to Tom Holkenborg, who delivers a pretty epic score to level up everything in the film.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Review: The Last Word

Sonic 3 can still feel dumb, cringy, and cliché at times, but it is also a very solid family film, filled with a story that works, characters that undergo change and development, and amazing action sequences that are entertaining to watch and respectful of everything that the source material has offered fans for decades. Sonic 3 is the best Sonic film to date, but with another sequel surely on the way, it seems it won’t hold that title for very long.

The year 2027 will arrive with the next set of horror comedies – Stree 2 on August 14 and Maha Munjya on December 24. Finally, the horror comedy Universe will conclude with an epic battle of two parts – Pehla Mahayudh on August 11, 2028, and Doosra Mahayudh on October 18, 2028.

The Starcast

While the Stree world includes Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana, the Bhediya world includes Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, and Deepak Dobriyal. Thama will bring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna to this Universe, and Chamunda is expected to bring Alia Bhatt to this Universe. Munjya includes Abhay Verma and Sharvari. The Starcast and the theme for Shakti Shalini are yet not known.

Themes

The films, as per the tradition of the horror-comedy Superhero Universe, will bring more horror folklore, blending them with situational comedies that would tickle your bones. While Stree 3 would take forward the story behind Sarkata, Bhediya 2 would further solve the mystery of the shape-shifting Bhediya portrayed by Varun Dhawan, a glimpse of which has been offered in Stree 2, already. The trailer showcases Ram Charan playing a father-son duo. He plays IAS Ram Nandan, a no-nonsense officer who is not afraid to lock horns with corrupt politicians and businessmen to expose their black monies and corrupt affairs. We are also shown parallelly how Nandan’s father, Apanna, also fought for the water resources in his village. While Apanna is shown to be married to Anjali’s character, Kiara Advani plays the love interest of Ram Nandan. However, Nandan soon comes face to face with a corrupt politician, Mopidevi (SJ Suryah), who proves to be his biggest nemesis.

One of the main highlights of the Game Changer trailer is Ram Charan’s fiery and magnetic screen presence. The superstar is powerful in both the roles, and some of his scenes are bound to evoke loads of cheer and whistles. He is intense during the action sequences but has a spunk and charming aura during the romantic and comedic sequences. The actor nails the emotional scenes too. Watch out for the “Raa Ki Raa, Sir Ki Sir” scene, which involves a showdown between Charan and Suryah’s characters.

However, some of the dialogues and action sequences in the Game Changer trailer are extremely over-the-top and do not invite the required emotions. The visuals, especially the soundtracks in some of the stills, appear to be too shoddy. We do not see Ram Charan’s chemistry with any of the supporting characters being fleshed out effectively. Kiara Advani’s character seems to be reduced to the song and dance sequences with Anjali’s still looking a little promising. SJ Suryah’s antagonist act tends to become too loud in some scenes. We can just hope that these dismal aspects do not appear to be too jarring in the movie.

The movie has been helmed by Shankar. Apart from Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, Anjali, and SJ Suryah, Gamer Changer also stars Samuthirakani, Srikanth, Sunil, and Nassar in pivotal roles. The movie will be released on January 10, 2025.

Khushbu said her character was originally meant to be happy, comical, and fun-loving. However, when she saw the film during the dubbing session, she felt disappointed by the final result.

Annaatthe was released in 2021. It was directed by Siva, the director of Kanguva. The film is an action drama. It tells the story of Kaalaiyan, who is a sarpanch from Thanjavur, played by Rajinikanth. Kaalaiyan is very protective of his younger sister.

Justin Baldoni’s legal feud with Blake Lively has been fueled beyond proportions, with the actor accusing her of trying to block him and his Wayfarer Studios team from attending the premiere of It Ends With Us in August.

According to a bombshell $250 million lawsuit filed against The New York Times, Baldoni claims that Lively initially refused to allow him to attend the event, allegedly seeking to diminish his role as director, executive producer, and lead star of the film.

The lawsuit paints a picture of a tense and humiliating scene, with Justin’s team and their families reportedly segregated from the main cast, excluded from the exclusive after-party, and forced to organize their own event at additional cost.

Even Baldoni’s time on the red carpet was cut short, and he claims that he and his guests were shuffled into a separate theater after Lively’s departure.

The ‘Five Feet Apart’ movie director’s legal filing further claims, “Not only had Lively stolen the Film, but she also robbed Baldoni and his team of any genuine opportunity to celebrate their hard work.”

Baldoni’s legal filing also suggests that Lively’s actions were part of a larger effort to sideline him and diminish his contribution to the film.

Alongside the allegations against Lively, the actor also names her husband, Ryan Reynolds, in the lawsuit, claiming that Reynolds had a hand in attacking his career and personal life.

“Baldoni and [Wayfarer Studios] grew increasingly fearful of what Lively and Reynolds were capable of, as their actions seemed aimed at destroying Baldoni’s career and personal life,” the docs claim, per Page Six.

According to the lawsuit, Reynolds confronted Baldoni over supposed “fat-shaming” of Lively and even went as far as pressuring Baldoni’s agent to drop him as a client.

Reynolds’ rep and Baldoni’s former agency, WME, have both denied these accusations, calling the claims false.

Lively’s legal team, meanwhile, has responded by standing by her previous lawsuits, insisting that Baldoni’s claims are based on a misunderstanding of the facts.

Talking to News18 Showsha, the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah producer said, “It is very important to bring back Dayaben because I also miss her. Sometimes circumstances change in such a way that certain things happen, and it gets delayed. Sometimes, the story gets prolonged. Sometimes, some big events come. There were elections in 2024, there was IPL and then the World Cup matches, the rainy season. It gets delayed because of some reasons.”

He added, “I am still trying. I believe Disha Vakani can’t be back. She has two children. She is like my sister. Even today, we have a very close relationship with her family. My sister, Disha Vakani, has tied a Rakhi to me. Her father and brother are also a family to me. You worked together for 17 years, and it became your extended family.”

While Modi has given up trying, he hopes that god will do some miracle and Disha Vakani will return to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. He said, “It is difficult for her now (to return to the show). For women, life changes after marriage. Working with small children and managing the house is really a bit difficult for them. But I am still positive. I feel somewhere that god will do some miracle, and she will return. If she comes, then it will be a good thing. If, for some reason, she does not come, then I will have to bring another Dayaben for the show.”

Asit Kumarr Modi further shared that currently, auditions are going on for the role of Dayaben, and whenever the actress is locked, they’ll plan a grand welcome.

She further said that technological advancement will help cinema rather than damage it, “ “The advancements in technology ensure that the cinematic experience is only getting better. From 3D to IMAX, and now immersive audio, there has been continued innovation in the theatre experience, which will keep bringing people back.” Jonas also praised OTT as a platform – “I think that both the big screen and OTT are incredible to have!
