These 8 films include three new worlds – Chamunda, Shakti Shalini, and Thama along with the 3 existing worlds – Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya! These six worlds will come together for an epic battle of two films concluding the Horror Comedy Superhero Universe.

The eight horror-comedy films will arrive between 2025 to 2028. Starting from Thama on Diwali 2025 and Shakti Shalini on December 31, 2025. This will be followed by Bhediya 2 on August 14, 2026, and Chamunda on December 4, 2026.

The year 2027 will arrive with the next set of horror comedies – Stree 2 on August 14 and Maha Munjya on December 24. Finally, the horror comedy Universe will conclude with an epic battle of two parts – Pehla Mahayudh on August 11, 2028, and Doosra Mahayudh on October 18, 2028.

The Starcast

While the Stree world includes Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana, the Bhediya world includes Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, and Deepak Dobriyal. Thama will bring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna to this Universe, and Chamunda is expected to bring Alia Bhatt to this Universe. Munjya includes Abhay Verma and Sharvari. The Starcast and the theme for Shakti Shalini are yet not known.

Themes

The films, as per the tradition of the horror-comedy Superhero Universe, will bring more horror folklore, blending them with situational comedies that would tickle your bones. While Stree 3 would take forward the story behind Sarkata, Bhediya 2 would further solve the mystery of the shape-shifting Bhediya portrayed by Varun Dhawan, a glimpse of which has been offered in Stree 2, already. Allu Arjun’s biggie with 10 crore collection took the 8th spot in the list, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’s Salaar. Interestingly, Salaar and Dunki had a box-office clash. Both films were released on December 21, 2023. Allu Arjun’s film on the 28th day earned more than Dunki and Salaar’s day 12, which happened to be January 1.

“I think it will always be special. There’s nothing quite like entering a darkened theatre and watching a movie, not just with friends and family, but in a room full of strangers, all connected by the viewing experience. The big screen’s scale, sound, and immersive atmosphere make it a special experience. I don’t think the magic of movie theatres will ever fade,” Chopra said.

She further said that technological advancement will help cinema rather than damage it, “ “The advancements in technology ensure that the cinematic experience is only getting better. From 3D to IMAX, and now immersive audio, there has been continued innovation in the theatre experience, which will keep bringing people back.” Jonas also praised OTT as a platform – “I think that both the big screen and OTT are incredible to have! We live in an incredible time where we can access entertainment in every way possible, 24/7.”

Despite her appreciation for OTT, Priyanka believes that theaters hold a special place in cinematic culture. So, while fans are cherishing OTT as a great option, traditional cinema theaters are going nowhere, at least for the next few years.

Priyanka’s father, Ashok Chopra, passed away in 2013, but she’s very close to her mother. During the conversation, Chopra recalled an incident when a guy jumped onto her balcony. “My dad was terrified, and he literally turned our house into a jail. He put wrought-iron bars on my windows – because one guy had jumped from another terrace on to my balcony – and a big lock on the front door. I wasn’t allowed to wear tight clothes or tight T-shirts. We had a big clash of egos.”

According to a new report by Pinkvilla, the writing has been completed for SSMB 29. SS Rajamouli plans to blend the jungle adventure genre with thrill and espionage. The film will reportedly go on the floors in April 2025. The project will be divided into two parts, which will be released in 2027 and 2029 respectively.

Casting Update

Apart from Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra, SS Rajamouli has roped in Prithviraj Sukumar as the leading antagonist. The casting is currently underway, and the director plans to get many more renowned faces on board.

SS Rajamouli & Mahesh Babu’s salary for SSMB 29

According to a source close to the development, SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu have ditched the usual salary pattern to sign a profit-sharing deal. “S Rajamouli has faith on his craft and Mahesh Babu is trusting his stardom. The duo has entered into a backend deal to not burden the project with high fees. The idea is to create cinema that creates a legacy for the cinema-going audience across the board. Both Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli have struck a 40% profit-sharing deal with the producers,” the report states.

SSMB 29 Budget

Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumar will be reportedly made on a budget of a whopping 1000 crores. It will leave behind Pushpa 2, Ramayan, and all other biggies to become the most expensive film ever made in India. But this may be the last project that will witness Rajamouli collaborate with other producers.

The source adds, “SS Rajamouli has kept his word of making films for producers D. V. V. Danayya & Narayana K.L. which was committed when he took signing amounts before the release of Baahubali. He chose to keep his commitment & not return the money which was an easier option. After SSMB 29, he will be a solo producer for all his films and directly partner with studios.”

The makers may reportedly tie up with a global studio and are currently in talks with Sony and Disney.

Bhagyashree recalled, “I was feeling lonesome because I had no family. We had to shoot Dil Deewana, and suddenly Salman came and sat right next to me and started singing the song into my ear.” She was confused about what was happening. “He had always been such a gentleman on set and so nice to me that I couldn’t understand. It seemed like crossing the line over flirting, and I said, ‘Why is he doing this?” Bhagyashree remarked.

At that time, Bhagyashree was dating Himalaya Dasani, who is now his husband. To Bhagyashree’s surprise, Salman knew this fact and took her to a corner for a conversation. “He would follow me around and keep singing the song, and I was like, ‘What’s happening here?’ He finally took me to the side and said, ‘I know!’ I was like really? He said, ‘I know who you are in love with,’” she recalled. As soon as she asked what he knew, Salman said Himalaya’s name. “He said, ‘I know about Himalaya. Why don’t you call him here?’ I was like, ‘Oh my god! This can’t be happening.’” Bhagyashree recalled. Since then, the two actors have been good friends, and Bhagyashree went on to marry Dasani.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Anurag Kashyap said, “They don’t understand anything. They can’t even make a Pushpa. They cannot, because they don’t have the brains to make a film. They don’t understand what filmmaking is. Pushpa can only be made by Sukumar. In the South, they invest in filmmakers and empower them to make films. Here, everyone is trying to create a universe. Do they understand their own universe and how minuscule they are in it? That’s the ego. When you create a universe, you think you’re God.”

The two properties include one high-end residential house and one commercial space reported to be over 2000 sq ft.

As per the report, producer Anand Pandit has assisted Aaryan in closing these deals. Besides a film producer, Pandit is also a real estate tycoon. This is not the first time Aaryan has been in the news for Real Estate. As per Mid-Day, the actor had began investing in real estate in June 2023. At that time, he had purchased two residential apartments in Juhu, which were reportedly priced at ₹17.5 Crore each. One of these properties is now rented out for about ₹4.5 Lakh per month.

Besides Juhu and Andheri, Kartik purchased an apartment in Versova in 2019, where he had lived in a PG during his early days. He also previously purchased a commercial 2000-square-foot office at Veera Desai. Actors like Big B, Ajay Devgn, Kajol, and Sara Ali Khan also own space there. As per the mid-day report, Aaryan has also rented out this office.

This time, the tour is in the news not for electrifying performances or chart-topping tracks, but due to a legal notice.

Dosanjh, who recently held a concert in Chandigarh, has been accused of violating noise pollution norms. Authorities claim the concert exceeded permissible noise levels, potentially leading to a hefty penalty of ₹15 lakh. This incident follows previous notices sent to Diljit’s team for similar issues, marking a dent in the otherwise widely successful tour.

Dil-luminati in Chandigarh reportedly violated the noise norm

As per a report by the Tribune, Dil-luminati’s sound levels in Chandigarh were significantly higher than the permissible limit, which might have disturbed the peace of nearby residential areas. The maximum permissible limit in that area is around 75 decibels, while the event was reported to be in the range of 76.1 and 93.1 decibels. Chandigarh’s civic body has taken note of the violation, and a notice is likely to be issued to the organizers, including the singer’s team, as per the report. The penalty is reported to be around ₹15 Lakh.

This isn’t the first time that Diljit’s concerts have come under scrutiny by local authorities. In September, a law student named Riddhima Kapoor filed a legal notice against Diljit Dosanjh and the concert organizers, alleging manipulation of ticket prices in a violation of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Later, the Telangana government prohibited him from performing songs that referred to alcohol, drugs, or violence. Therefore, Dosanjh had to tweak his lyrics in the concert.

Also, as per Business Standard, a unique “Judges Lounge” was created during his tour in Chandigarh. Here, about 300 VIP passes were reported to be issued to judges and their families, which became a point of controversy. Now, the reported-₹15 lakh notice adds to the list of controversy the Dil-luminati tours was a part of.

Talking at the International Film Festival of Kerala, Kashyap said “They take influences [from around the world] and localize it so much that it creates a very different language altogether.” Kashyap also explained the problem with the Hindi cinema. “The problem with Hindi cinema is that we think we have to create the next big blockbuster…. Instead of focusing on making the film, we started focusing on being treated like stars,” Kashyap continued, “It’s difficult for me to experiment now because it comes at a cost and that makes my producer think about profits. Before we make a film, it’s all about how we sell it. The joy of filmmaking is sucked out.”

In the end, Kashyap revealed that he was planning to leave Bombay and go to the South. While it may mean fewer or no Bollywood films from the director, it promises a new era of storytelling for Indian cinema.

Raveena Tandon might be a top actress of the 90s but had to convince Ram Gopal Varma for her role in Shool, directed by E Nivas. Raveena established herself in the comic space with her films opposite Govinda. However, that hindered her as she did not fit RGV’s criteria for Shool’s Manjari. Shool was released in 1999, and Eeshwar Nivas directed the film. The film features Manoj Bajpayee and Sayaji Shinde in crucial roles. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. It was also featured at the International Film Festival of India and the Toronto International Film Festival. The action crime drama achieved a cult following over the years.

Raveena Tandon played the role of Manjari, wife of Samar Pratap Singh [played by Manoj Bajpayee]. At Netfilx’s Actors’ Roundtable 2021, Raveena opened up about fighting for her role in Shool. She recalled, “For Shool, I had to (fight). E Nivas (Eeshwar Nivas), the director of the film, was absolutely convinced. If you see Shool, there’s Manoj Bajpayee and me. I am Manjiri, playing a lower middle-class Bihari housewife with that orange sindoor and everything. Ramu was the producer, Ram Gopal Varma.”

Raveena explained, “And he was not convinced at all. He said, ‘No yaar Raveena. I shut my eyes and I can only see you do ‘Ankhiyon se goli maare.’ I was like, ‘Ramu please yaar!’He could not see me as Manjiri.” The Mohra actress did not give up and she continued to prove herself to Ram Gopal Varma, luckily the director was convinced and supported her.

She added, “I requested him to give it a shot. Even E Niwas was convinced this is my Manjiri. Cut to, we are shooting. We did all the publicity shoot before the film’s shoot. I got out of my make up room, was walking to the corridor. I am in that look (Manjiri). Ramu was coming from the front. I looked at him and said, ‘Ramu, how are you doing? We were waiting for you. But we have already started.” Raveena also said, “I was like, he really doesn’t want me on this film. But I still went to shoot and was doing my thing. Suddenly after, 5-7 minutes later I hear him go, ‘Oh my god! Raveena, that was you?’ And I said, ‘I rest my case.'”

Raveena Tandon concluded, “That is something I had to convince him to let me do because I was looking for that breakthrough. I was done with doing the kind of stuff I was already doing.”

Raveena Tandon has Welcome to the Jungle in the pipeline and is currently under production. She was last seen in the Disney+Hotstar drama thriller Karmma Calling.

In an interview with The Times of India, Boney Kapoor revealed that people predicted Judaai to be a flop as they would not be able to accept Sridevi romancing Anil Kapoor as the former was married to the latter’s brother. According to them, the audience wasn’t willing to watch the duo as a romantic pair. Recalling the similar gossip during Mr India, the producer said, “I had faith in the project, and I told Anil that you will be remembered as Mr. India till your last breath.”

Boney Kapoor spoke about it in a recent interview, when he opened up about the challenges he faced in his career. He said, “I’ve been through various challenges. Meri pichli kai filmon mein mujhe tarah-tarah ke challenges face kiye jaise Mr India, No Entry, Wanted, Judaai.” He continued [via Ary News], “During Judaai, there was a different challenge. My wife [Sridevi] was pregnant, and Anil [Kapoor] was the hero. Logo ne kaha picture kaise chalegi, bhabhi ke saath pair kiya hai .”

Judaai was a huge commercial success and one of the highest-grossing films of 1997. It also featured Urmila Matondkar in the leading role. Kader Khan, Farida Jalal, Johnny Lever, Paresh Rawal, Upasana Singh, and Saeed Jaffrey also featured in supporting roles.

In simple terms, Kalees’ directorial is getting sandwiched, and there’s unfortunately no way out.

Baby John is reportedly made on a budget of 160 crores. The action thriller has recovered 18.3% of the estimated cost at the box office.

Let alone a full recovery; at this pace, the film will not even be able to revive 50% of the budget.

Trade analysts are predicting a lifetime of 60 crores. If Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh starrer earns lesser than that, it could land among the top 10 flops of 2024.
