Barroz Movie Review Out (Photo Credit – Instagram)

What’s Good: The film is visually captivating, with 3D effects and CGI that are both realistic and convincing, particularly for an Indian production and even more so for a South Indian film. The animated elements, such as the underwater sequences, are also well-executed and impressive.

What’s Bad: The film suffers from a weak script and an unnecessarily long runtime, with a highly predictable and overly simplistic plot. It also struggles with an identity crisis, unable to decide whether it wants to be a musical, a comedy, or an action film.

Loo Break: The film features several poorly executed songs, making them ideal moments to take a break if needed.

Watch or Not?: The film is primarily designed for children and families with kids, so it may not resonate as much with a mature audience. The visual effects are impressive, and if you’re considering watching it solely for that reason, it’s worth visiting the theater. However, waiting for it to stream might not be the best choice, as the 3D effects, arguably the film’s main attraction, won’t have the same impact.

The plot centers around a magical entity created by transforming a loyal human servant using African black magic and witchcraft. His sole purpose was to guard the treasures of Vasco da Gama. For nearly 400 years, he has waited for the arrival of da Gama’s descendant to claim it. That’s as much as can be revealed without delving into spoilers.

Barroz 3D Movie Review: Script Analysis

The script is a significant flaw due to its excessive length and weak execution. While a simple plot isn’t inherently an issue—films with basic storylines have succeeded in the Malayalam film industry, such as Thallumaala—here, the combination of a predictable plot and poor execution leaves much to be desired. The film lacks the excitement and suspense that could have been built through unexpected twists or surprises, failing to engage the audience.

The world-building also fails to convince. For example, in Goa, everyone speaks Malayalam, and there’s a plot to demolish a historic building to make way for a casino. In what fantasy world would this happen? The Archaeological Survey of India, or any other such body, would never allow this. The protesters should have come from archaeological societies, not slums.

While not referring to the fantasy elements, a good film seamlessly blends fantasy and reality. Unfortunately, the way this world is established feels flawed, even for a fantasy setting. These missteps make the film seem to underestimate the viewer’s intellect. It may be suitable for children but lacks the depth needed for a more mature audience.

Barroz 3D Movie Review: Star Performance

Mohanlal really owned the role of Barroz and did a great job with it. Maya Rao West as Isabella was also impressive and gave a solid performance. Overall, the acting was strong throughout.

Barroz 3D Movie Review: Direction, Music

The direction is mediocre, as the film includes several song segments that don’t contribute much to the story. However, it’s a promising start as the legendary actor’s first directorial venture. The fight choreography, camera work, and other technical aspects are solid. Mohanlal shows potential, and with a stronger story and script, he could create something truly remarkable. The background score is effective and fitting, but the songs themselves are disappointing.

Barroz 3D Movie Review: The Last Word

In conclusion, Barroz is worth watching once in theaters, especially for its 3D and visual effects. They will likely enjoy it if you have children, making it a great option for a family outing. The film shows potential, particularly in its visuals and performances, but the lack of suspense, depth, and convincing world-building makes it more appealing to younger audiences. It might be enjoyable if you’re in the mood for a visually-driven fantasy, but don’t expect a gripping or thought-provoking story.

What’s Good: There’s a solid twist you likely won’t see coming. The visuals are impressive, notably the cinematography and the careful positioning of the camera.

What’s Bad: The background score in the first half could be more robust, with an overuse of bass that adds little value. The ending and villain are predictable, with noticeable plot holes throughout.

Loo Break: You can take a short break anytime before the 45-minute mark, but keep in mind there are key scenes that introduce and establish the characters, helping us understand who they are and their behavior.

Watch or Not?: If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, this film is worth a watch. It has a slow start, but the second half is quite engaging. However, it’s suited for a more mature audience.

The plot of Bougainvillea is straightforward. A young woman, the daughter of a politician from Tamil Nadu, goes missing while studying in Kerala. During the investigation, the police discover that several other young women in their early twenties have also disappeared under similar circumstances. Jyothirmayi’s character, Reethu, becomes the prime suspect. Reethu suffers from memory issues and struggles to recall everything. The film is overly long for its good. Kunchacko Boban’s character, Dr. Royce Thomas, is portrayed as a caring and devoted husband. The central question is whether Reethu is involved in these disappearances and, if so, to what extent.

Bougainvillea Movie Review: Script Analysis

In the first half, the script feels weak as the character establishment drags on for too long. However, it picks up in the second half and does its job effectively. Introducing characters and their behavioral patterns felt authentic, with interactions and dialogues that were true to life. Kunchacko Boban’s character needed more depth, as he wasn’t well-established or fully developed. The script, written by the director alongside Lajo Jose and R.J. Murugan, works but could have been stronger.

Bougainvillea Movie Review: Star Performance

There are few standout characters in this film, but those present do their jobs well. Jyothirmayi’s portrayal of Reethu is a true masterpiece—her performance is utterly convincing, capturing the essence of her character with skill. Kunchacko Boban’s portrayal of Dr. Royce Thomas is even more compelling; he conveys a deep sense of helplessness with remarkable subtlety and emotion.

On the other hand, Fahadh Faasil, who plays the investigative officer David Koshy, needs to be more utilized. There is little for him to do in this role, and it feels like a missed opportunity for an actor of his caliber. I’m not referring to his stardom but rather his talent as a performer, which isn’t fully tapped into here.

Srinda, playing Rema, the domestic help, is also convincing in her role. She delivers a strong performance and deserves more character roles like this, showcasing her potential. Similarly, as Meera, the psychologist, Veena Nandakumar does a fine job. She convincingly expresses fear and the shifts in her character’s mood, adding depth to her role.

Bougainvillea Movie Review: Direction, Music

Directed by Amal Neerad, best known for his crime thrillers and action dramas, this film sees him deliver an average performance. It could be more outstanding, mainly due to the slow pacing in the early part of the film. One of the main issues lies with the music. Fahadh Faasil‘s introduction is marred by a poorly executed background score, which detracts from the scene’s impact. A film can only be delightful if all aspects come together, ensuring that is the director’s responsibility. In this case, Neerad needs to improve, especially with a weak script and subpar music by Sushin Shyam.

Shyam, who is not a newcomer to the industry and has delivered some impressive work in the past, needs to catch up here. While his previous compositions have been great, his contribution to this film is underwhelming. Overall, the direction in the first half feels lackluster, but the second half feels like a different movie altogether. Many earlier mistakes are redeemed, though flashbacks could have added more depth if handled better.

Bougainvillea Movie Review: The Last Word

In conclusion, while Bougainvillea showcases strong performances from its cast and features a gripping second half, it falls short due to pacing issues and a lackluster soundtrack in the first half. A strong script and consistent direction undermine the film’s potential. However, for dedicated fans of psychological thrillers, it may offer an intriguing experience worth watching.

Loo Break: The movie’s pacing and structure are so compelling that you’ll be engaged until the interval without any inclination to leave the theater.

Director Jeethu Joseph’s “Nunakuzhi” is a blend of entertainment and humor. While it’s a comedy, it avoids falling into illogical territory. The film successfully meets its goals, adding well-cast characters to its charm. The audience response has been positive, with many viewers laughing out loud at the perfectly timed jokes.

“Nunakuzhi” weaves three distinct storylines and a chaotic fight sequence into a hilariously engaging adventure. Set over the course of a single day and night, the film follows a couple on the brink of divorce, a managing director of a conglomerate, and a group of three drunken film industry personalities and a civil servant—a drunk actor, producer, writer-director, and the writer-director’s equally inebriated income tax officer uncle—who gather under the guise of discussing films. As the police get involved, the chaos intensifies, bringing these storylines together in a comedic narrative that sets the stage for a potential sequel.

The story starts with an income tax raid on Basil Joseph’s office, part of the empire his father built across multiple industries. Basil, more preoccupied with his love life than the family business, is caught off guard when tax authorities confiscate his personal laptop, which contains compromising footage. Pressured by his wife to retrieve it immediately, Basil embarks on a series of unfortunate and comedic misadventures in his quest to recover the laptop.

Nunakkuzhi Movie Review: Script Analysis

K.R. Krishna Kumar’s script presents the plot with clarity and conviction, making even the most complex storylines easy to follow—so much so that even a child could grasp them. The pacing is expertly aligned with the film’s narrative, sustaining an engaging rhythm that enhances the movie’s tone and structure. Despite juggling multiple plotlines, the script remains captivating and avoids dull moments. While some jokes fall flat, the overall dialogue is effective. The scriptwriter adeptly managed the challenge of adapting the plot, ensuring a seamless narrative flow.

Nunakkuzhi Movie Review: Star Performance

The casting was exemplary, with each actor fitting their role effectively and delivering convincing performances. Basil Joseph, as the endearing goofball CEO, was both lovable and believable, serving as the movie’s heart. His dynamic with Grace Antony, especially in their interrogation scene, added a compelling layer to the film. Nikhila Vimal, playing Basil’s wife, also performed admirably. Grace Antony’s portrayal of a bold character felt authentic, suggesting she could naturally embody such traits. Aju Varghese, as Grace Antony’s husband, had a more minor role but executed it well. Baiju Santhosh, cast as the police officer, delivered his best work to date, demonstrating his potential as an underutilized talent in the industry. Siddique, as always, was convincing, with his portrayal of fear and humorous reactions adding depth to his character. Althaf Salim, as the aspiring writer-director, was also influential in his role.

Nunakkuzhi Movie Review: Direction, Music

This film, directed by Jeethu Joseph, renowned for his prowess in the crime investigation mystery genre, reveals a new dimension of his directorial skill. Although Joseph has previously excelled in comedy, this film showcases his abilities once more. The pacing is masterful, with a seamless flow of time attributed to its meticulously managed rhythm. Situations unfold naturally as Joseph adeptly leverages the cast’s acting talents, allowing scenes to progress organically and avoiding forced narrative elements. Vishnu Shyam’s background score significantly enhances the film’s mood, with the theme song being especially memorable. The vibrant score elevates the atmosphere and enriches every scene.

What’s Good: The fight choreography and visuals, especially with Mammootty, are genuinely electrifying. Mammootty‘s precision and stylish delivery of knockout punches make every fight sequence a thrilling spectacle! The Hollywood pop culture references, like Turbo Jose’s mother mourning Tony Stark’s death or a local don channeling Vito Corleone with a similar mustache, clothing, and demeanor, add fun and nostalgia to the movie.

What’s Bad: The movie had a few plot holes towards the end and lacked iconic music. Although the soundtrack was good and served its purpose, it had no standout tracks that left a lasting impression. In some scenes, a turbo spooling noise and horn sound are used as background sounds for Mammootty’s character before he appears. This felt out of place because no one in a crowded festival or a two-story house would hear that noise and stop everything to look at the road.

Loo Break: It’s best to avoid taking a break during this film. However, if you must, try to do so during the interval.

Watch or Not?: This film is a must-watch for action movie buffs seeking heart-pounding fights and jaw-dropping visuals! With Mammootty’s electrifying performance, it’s a rollercoaster of excitement from start to finish.

Turbo Jose, played by Mammootty, is a troublemaker in his hometown. After an attack on his friend Jerry, played by Shabareesh Varma, Turbo Jose discovers that Jerry’s girlfriend, Indulekha, played by Anjana Jayaprakash’s family, was behind the assault. They orchestrated the attack to scare Jerry away and marry Indulekha off to another man. Without Jerry’s consent, Turbo Jose decides to help Indulekha escape her family to reunite with Jerry. However, when they arrive at Jerry’s home, Jerry denies knowing Indulekha, lying to protect himself.

Now, Turbo Jose is wanted for kidnapping Indulekha and attacking her family, which includes several military personnel. To let things cool down, he moves to Chennai. In Chennai, where Indulekha and Jerry work at different banks, Jerry uncovers a massive conspiracy involving Vetrivel Shanmugha Sundaram, played by Raj B. Shetty.

Turbo Movie Review: Script Analysis

Much like his previous works, the script by Midhun Manuel Thomas contains some plot holes, although they are fewer in number compared to his earlier movies. However, what sets this script apart is its effectiveness in keeping the plot less predictable. While the final outcome may still be understandable, the journey to reach it takes unexpected twists and turns. Additionally, the dynamics between the characters are unique, adding an intriguing layer to the storyline. Overall, the script offers a fresh perspective and a refreshing departure from the usual tropes of the genre.

Turbo Movie Review: Star Performance

At the age of 72, Mammootty portrays the character of Turbo Jose and delivers a commendable performance in the fight scenes, exuding the vigor and vitality of a man in his late 40s. Raj B. Shetty, as Vetrivel Shanmugha Sundaram, impresses with his intimidating presence, although his physicality falls short in establishing him as an equal adversary to Mammootty, which is especially evident in the final fight sequence. Notably, Nepolean in “Devaasuram” (1993) is a prime example of a formidable antagonist. Sunil, portraying a local Don with shades of Vito Corleone, provides effective comic relief. Anjana Jayaprakash’s portrayal of Indulekha lacks conviction, failing to convey emotional distress even in life-threatening situations, unlike Niranjana Anoop, who convincingly portrays fear and impending danger. Bindu Panikkar delivers a solid comedic performance, while Shabareesh Varma, like Jerry and Dileesh Pothan, excels in their respective roles.

Turbo Movie Review: Direction, Music

In simple terms, the direction by Vysakh was commendable, with well-executed fight sequences and successful incorporation of comedy and pop culture references. However, the film needed more emotional depth, failing to establish a strong connection between the audience and the characters on screen. As a result, when pivotal moments like deaths occurred, there was a notable absence of emotional impact, a significant flaw in the director’s approach. Additionally, Some of the murders were depicted brutally, effectively instilling fear and hatred towards Vetrivel Shanmugha Sundaram.

Turbo Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – YouTube )

The music by Christo Xavier is solid, effectively fulfilling its role in enhancing scenes throughout the movie. However, it needs more memorability, as the soundtrack fails to leave a lasting impression. While it successfully complements the visuals, it lacks those standout melodies or themes that truly stick with the audience beyond the viewing experience.

Turbo Movie Review: The Last Word

While it may have flaws, including plot holes and a lack of emotional depth, the film’s entertainment value and engaging storyline make it worth watching.

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil Movie Review: Script Analysis

The script’s engagement owes much to the skillful pen of writer Deepu Pradeep, without whom this basic plot might have fallen flat with today’s audience. While lacking surprises, its ability to captivate remains its strongest asset. Coupled with pop culture references, the film’s appeal is bolstered, offering a lively narrative that delves into the amusing dynamics between soon-to-be brothers-in-law Vinu and Anandan. Despite occasional hit-or-miss moments, the script delivers an enjoyable viewing experience, even if it doesn’t pioneer new ground in plot innovation.

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil Movie Review: Star Performance

The cast delivers consistently strong performances throughout the film, with Prithviraj and Basil standing out in their roles, portraying the nuanced dynamics between Vinu and Anandan with charisma and conviction. Nikhila Vimal impresses as Parvathy. Anaswara Rajan convincingly portrays the bride-to-be, showcasing commendable character portrayal. Though having limited screen time, Tamil actor Yogi Babu brings humor without resorting to physical appearance stereotypes common in Tamil movies. Joemon Jyothir, in a role reminiscent of his previous work in Basil Joseph starrer ‘Falimy,’ delivers a fitting performance. While Jagadish, as the bride’s father, is convincing, his character lacks ample comedic scenes to showcase his talent fully. Despite occasional flaws, the performances elevate the film and contribute significantly to its entertainment value.

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil Movie Review: Direction, Music

Vipin Das’s direction is commendable. He successfully navigates the intricate narrative of Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, ensuring a cohesive and engaging viewing experience. Vipin Das effectively captures the film’s comedic tone while balancing the emotional beats, resulting in a well-paced and entertaining story. His ability to extract strong performances from the cast contributes to the film’s overall success, despite some clichéd moments and issues with pacing in the latter half.

Regarding the music, Ankit Menon’s score adds depth and emotion to critical moments throughout the film, enhancing the overall mood and atmosphere. The music complements the comedic elements of the story, effectively elevating the viewer’s experience. Both the direction and music contribute significantly to the overall enjoyment of ‘Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil.’

Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil Movie Review: The Last Word

‘Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil’ offers a familiar yet enjoyable ride, buoyed by stellar performances, an engaging script, and commendable direction. While not groundbreaking, its blend of humor and emotional beats makes it a worthwhile watch, especially for fans of Prithviraj and Basil. Highly recommended for families during an outing.

Nadikar Movie Review: Script Analysis

The Script of ‘Nadikar’ follows a common theme of a once-renowned actor facing personal and professional challenges, with a predictable character arc and conclusion. Although the premise has promise, the execution needs to be captivated by a compelling narrative. Character development needs more depth, making it easier for viewers to invest in the protagonist’s journey. Despite notable performances, the script’s extended length must improve its impact. Pacing issues, particularly in the first half, hinder the film’s ability to evoke emotions and keep the audience engaged. In sum, ‘Nadikar‘ hints at potential but fails to deliver.

Nadikar Movie Review: Star Performance

The cast of ‘Nadikar’ delivers mixed performances. Tovino Thomas captures the essence of David Padikkal’s character but struggles to convey the depth of his emotional journey convincingly. Soubin Shahir shines as the eccentric acting coach, bringing a unique energy to the role. Suresh Krishna and Balu Varghese deliver a commendable performance, providing both comedic relief and depth to the narrative. Bhavana’s return to the screen is refreshing, although her role could have been more substantial. A fan of David Padikkal, portrayed by Salim Kumar’s son, Chandu Salimkumar, shows promise but falls short of delivering a compelling portrayal. While some performances stand out, the cast’s collective effort is hindered by the film’s character development and storytelling shortcomings.

Nadikar Movie Review: Direction, Music

The direction of ‘Nadikar ‘Offers a mixed bag. While it effectively captures some poignant moments and utilizes refreshing music by Neha Nair and Yakzan Gary Pareira to enhance the emotional depth of the scenes, it struggles with pacing issues and fails to fully develop the characters.

In terms of music, Neha Nair and Yakzan Gary Pareira’s compositions stand out. They add depth and emotion to key sequences in the film and contribute significantly to the overall atmosphere and mood of the movie, particularly during emotionally charged moments towards the conclusion.

However, the direction could have benefited from tighter pacing and more focused character development to elevate the film’s overall impact. Despite these shortcomings, the direction and music of ‘Nadikar’ contribute positively to certain aspects of the viewing experience.

Nadikar Movie Review: The Last Word

‘Nadikar’ offers a compelling premise but needs more execution due to pacing issues, lackluster character development, and excessive duration. While the direction and music have their strengths, more is required to fully overcome the script’s shortcomings.

What’s Bad: The film’s disjointed script and overstretched duration dampen its impact and engagement.

Loo Break: About half an hour into the film, during the song Krishna.

Watch or Not?: If you enjoy Nivin Pauly’s performances and are okay with a somewhat disjointed storyline, it might be worth a watch for its sporadic feel-good moments and political commentary. However, you should pass on this if you prefer more cohesive narratives.

Malayalee from India Movie Review: Script Analysis

Malayalee From India” offers a spirited yet disjointed cinematic experience buoyed by Nivin Pauly’s charismatic portrayal of Gopi. The film traverses through many themes, including comedy, political satire, and social messaging, but struggles to find a harmonious balance. While Pauly’s comedic timing alongside Dhyan Sreenivasan adds vitality to the narrative, the script’s erratic shifts between genres and themes hinder its coherence. The inclusion of astute political observations and occasional moments of genuine emotion provide glimpses of potential, but these bright spots are overshadowed by the overall disjointedness of the storyline. The inclusion of fortune telling and Muthappan (the personification of the Hindu god) reassuring a Muslim woman that everything is going to be okay, and she is also Muthappan’s child, offers commentary on Kerala’s unique social conditions, where Hindu deities are worshiped by followers of other religions and vice versa, or Nivin Pauly’s family relationship with their neighbor, a Muslim grandmother. Despite its earnest intentions, “Malayalee From India” falls short of realizing its full potential.

Malayalee from India Movie Review: Star Performance

The cast’s performance in “Malayalee From India” seems to be a mixed bag. Nivin Pauly shines as Gopi, bringing energy and comedic timing to the film. Dhyan Sreenivasan also contributes generously to Malgosh’s comedic moments. Deepak Jethi’s portrayal of a Pakistani character alongside Nivin Pauly adds genuine emotion to certain scenes. However, Anaswara Rajan’s character has faded into the background, failing to significantly impact the plot. While standout performances exist, the need for more character development and engagement is a drawback for some cast members.

Malayalee from India Movie Review: Direction, Music

Regarding direction, Dijo Jose Antony seems to have showcased remarkable self-awareness in “Malayalee From India,” particularly his ability to blend humor with astute political observations. However, the film’s narrative structure has felt disjointed due to the attempt to balance multiple themes and genres.

Jakes Bejoy’s music enriches the storytelling experience, drawing the audience deeper into the narrative of “Malayalee From India.” music plays a pivotal role in setting the mood and amplifying the film’s emotional resonance.

Malayalee from India Movie Review: The Last Word

Despite its strengths in certain aspects, like music and performances, it needs to maintain coherence and engagement due to its disjointed narrative and lack of depth in character development.

Aavesham’s script is notable for its simplicity and effectiveness in delivering a compelling narrative. Rather than relying on elaborate character backstories, the script focuses on brief yet impactful character introductions, allowing the audience to connect with the protagonists through their actions and interactions. This approach keeps the plot streamlined and emphasizes the importance of visual storytelling, as the characters’ motivations and personalities are revealed through their behaviors and choices rather than exposition.

Furthermore, the script balances humor, action, and drama, ensuring the audience remains engaged throughout the film. The witty dialogue and situational comedy add levity to the story, while well-executed action sequences ramp up the excitement. At the same time, moments of drama and tension provide depth to the characters and their relationships, creating a multifaceted viewing experience. Overall, Aavesham’s script demonstrates a keen understanding of storytelling fundamentals, resulting in a cohesive and entertaining cinematic journey.

Madhavan effectively captures the essence of Bangalore, blending Malayali and Kannada cultures seamlessly to add authenticity to the setting. His ability to balance the film’s pacing ensures that the audience remains engrossed, even during slower moments in the second half. Madhavan’s direction also shines in portraying the characters, allowing them to evolve naturally and showcasing their complexities through their interactions and choices.

The script effectively portrays the evolution of Najeeb Muhammad’s character, showcasing his transformation from a hopeful immigrant to a resilient survivor. The gradual change in Najeeb’s appearance and demeanor reflects his emotional and physical journey throughout the film. What’s Good: The film’s black-and-white aesthetic adds a layer of visual allure, complementing its period setting and reducing the impact of gore. Mammootty’s portrayal of Kunjamon Potti is a standout, showcasing his versatility and anchoring the film with a captivating performance. The incorporation of intricate folklore elements by writer Rahul Sadasivan enriches the storytelling, while the musical score by Christo Xavier enhances the atmospheric experience.

What’s Bad: While “Bramayugam” delivers solid entertainment, it may not fully meet expectations for those seeking intense scares or excessive violence. The pacing in the movie’s first half is slightly slow, and despite setups for jump scares, they don’t materialize, potentially leaving some viewers wanting more.

Loo Break: While the movie initially unfolds at a slower pace, it only provides a few opportunities for a convenient restroom break.

Watch or Not?: I recommend waiting for the streaming release, especially for viewers with an OLED screen and a decent audio setup. While the theatrical experience offers visual splendor, the essence of the film can be appreciated just as well at home.

Bramayugam Movie Review: Script Analysis

Rahul Sadasivan’s screenplay for “Bramayugam” cunningly intertwines folklore and suspense, spinning a web of narrative darkness that ensnares viewers in a realm of mystery and diabolical intrigue. Teaming up with acclaimed novelist TD Ramakrishnan, Sadasivan crafts dialogue dripping with malevolence and foreboding, luring audiences deeper into the sinister landscape of 17th-century Southern Malabar. The script’s true wickedness lies in its ability to twist conventions, manipulating traditional storytelling techniques into an ominous and innovative tapestry. By seamlessly melding historical reality with supernatural terror, Sadasivan conjures a chilling narrative that keeps viewers trembling on the precipice of horror until the last frame fades to black.

Furthermore, Sadasivan’s screenplay is a foundation for the film’s thematic exploration, delving into themes of fear, power, and the unknown. Through the interactions of characters like Thevan and Kunjamon Potti, the script navigates the complexities of human nature and the allure of forbidden knowledge. Each scene is meticulously crafted to build tension and suspense, culminating in a climactic showdown that leaves a lasting impression. The script makes this movie a thought-provoking exploration of folklore and the human psyche.

“Bramayugam” relentlessly hounds audiences with a powerhouse ensemble cast, each actor pushing the film to unparalleled heights. Mammootty’s rendition of the enigmatic Kunjamon Potti is utterly captivating, displaying his boundless skill and profound acting prowess. With finesse and weight, Mammootty breathes life into the multifaceted antihero, enveloping viewers in Potti’s labyrinth of mystery and shadows. His compelling aura becomes the film’s unyielding force, precise audiences deeper into the enigmatic depths of Potti’s universe.

Arjun Ashokan shines as Paanan, infusing the character with vulnerability and resilience. Arjun Ashokan’s performance is chillingly remarkable, portraying the essence of a man ensnared by supernatural forces beyond his grasp. Sidharth Bharathan’s portrayal of the chef is equally unsettling, delving into the depths of a man tormented by the malevolent secrets concealed within his employer’s mansion. Despite their limited screen time, Amalda Liz and Manikandan Achari leave an impression with their performances. Together, these talented actors breathe life into “Bramayugam.”

Bramayugam Movie Review: Direction, Music

Rahul Sadasivan’s direction in “Bramayugam” is masterful, guiding the audience through a haunting journey filled with suspense and intrigue. Darkness envelops every scene, revealing the meticulous attention to detail as Shehnad Jalal’s atmospheric cinematography merges with intricately crafted sets, infusing vitality into Kunjamon Potti’s dilapidated mansion. Opting for a monochromatic grading, Sadasivan imparts a timeless essence to the film, elevating its period backdrop and mitigating the intensity of gore, rendering it accessible to a broader audience. Skillful pacing maintains viewer engagement, steadily escalating tension until a gripping climax is reached.

Sadasivan’s direction in “Bramayugam” is enriched by Christo Xavier’s haunting musical score, which intensifies the film’s atmospheric depth. Xavier’s compositions evoke a sense of dread and suspense, utilizing ambient sounds and orchestral arrangements to enhance each scene’s emotional impact. The synergy between Sadasivan’s direction and Xavier’s music creates a visually striking and emotionally compelling cinematic experience, establishing “Bramayugam” as a noteworthy achievement in Indian cinema.

Bramayugam Movie Review: The Last Word

“Bramayugam” cunningly melds captivating storytelling, visual allure, and chilling performances to unleash an evil saga of folklore and deceit. Though it may not appease every horror aficionado, its sinister aesthetic and gripping narrative carve a niche of darkness within the Indian cinematic realm, ensuring its place as a sinister standout.

The storyline of ‘Anweshippin Kandethum’ revolves around two separate crimes and their subsequent investigations set in Kerala. The film is organized into two discernible segments, inviting viewers into an investigation in the late 80s and a distinct investigation in the early 90s. Each segment delves into the enigmatic circumstances surrounding the deaths of young women in their early twenties, with each case presenting a unique and separate narrative.

Anweshippin Kandethum Movie Review: Script Analysis

The script propels the narrative forward, focusing on the investigation and avoiding unnecessary diversions. Jinu Abraham adeptly weaves a narrative that maintains viewer engagement from start to finish, with every scene advancing the plot. The script instills a feeling of suspense and intrigue, holding audiences captive. Furthermore, deliberately omitting extraneous subplots or distractions produces a more cohesive storytelling experience.

Although Tovino Thomas’s character lacks personal ties, the script showcases his commitment to his profession and relentless quest for justice. Each character is intricately developed, adding depth to the narrative. In sum, the script of “Anweshippin Kandethum” provides a sturdy framework for the film, propelling its storyline while effectively captivating the audience with its suspenseful storytelling.

Anweshippin Kandethum Movie Review: Star Performance

In “Anweshippin Kandethum,” Tovino Thomas delivers an exceptional performance as Anand Narayanan, portraying the character with depth and conviction. He skillfully captures the intricacies of a committed police officer navigating complex investigations, exhibiting a spectrum of emotions from resolve to vulnerability. Tovino’s portrayal effectively conveys the internal conflicts and external obstacles his character encounters, imbuing the film with authenticity and inviting viewers to empathize with Anand’s journey.

The other cast of “Anweshippin Kandethum” significantly enhances the film’s overall quality. Actor Siddique convincingly portrays a superior officer to Tovino, while Indrans delivers a commendable performance that does justice to his role despite appearing in only a few scenes. Additionally, Shammy Thilakan adds depth and subtlety to his character, further enriching the film with his performance.

Anweshippin Kandethum Movie Review: Direction, Music

Directed by Darwin Kuriakose, “Anweshippin Kandethum” is a fast-paced movie focusing on essential scenes devoid of unnecessary fillers, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The direction ensures a cohesive storytelling experience. The late 80s and early 90s are captured impeccably, with attention to detail evident in the portrayal of vehicles, clothing, and street scenes. Each scene adeptly conveys the depth of the situations depicted.

The music by Santhosh Narayanan is good, although it leans too heavily on the bass for my taste. However, other audience members enjoy it. It effectively enhances the film’s enjoyment and immerses us further in the storyline.

Anweshippin Kandethum Movie Review: Last Words

“Anweshippin Kandethum” shines as a mesmerizing police procedural, elevated by stellar acting, an enthralling plot, and masterful direction. It adds to the esteemed tradition of top-notch cop dramas in Malayalam cinema, ensuring it’s a must-watch for aficionados.

‘Malaikottai Vaaliban’ Movie Review (Photo Credit – IMDb)

What’s Good: Undoubtedly, the cinematography by Madhu Neelakandan stands out, capturing picturesque shots that immerse the audience in the fantastical world. The film’s visual appeal is enhanced by the thoughtful use of colors and the creative contributions of the art department, including Gokul Das, Ratheesh Chammravattom, and Sujith Sudhakaran.

What’s Bad: The film’s prolonged runtime and consistently slow pace, exacerbated by the extended use of slow-motion editing, may test the audience’s patience. The writing, lacking a robust core concept, exhibits disjointed transitions between incidents and a need for more apparent establishment within the fantasy action genre.

Specific emotional sequences, including one between Hareesh Peradi and Mohanlal, fail to connect with the audience, with laughter overshadowing the intended emotional impact. Danish Sait’s portrayal of the antagonist, Chamathakan, also occasionally veers into slight overacting.

Loo Break: Around the 1-hour and 7-minute mark in Malaikottai Vaaliban, a song is featured. This is an opportune moment for a loo break if needed, allowing viewers to comfortably step away during a musical interlude without missing crucial plot developments.

Watch or Not?: While Malaikottai Vaaliban showcases technical brilliance and an impressive collaboration between Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery, its extended duration and occasional inconsistencies in the plot may not appeal to all audiences. Fans of fantasy action with patience for a slower narrative may be worth watching.

Malaikottai Vaaliban Movie Review: Script Analysis

The film’s script faces significant challenges as it needs a solid foundation in a strong core concept. A well-defined central theme is required to contribute to the struggles in storytelling, resulting in disjointed transitions between scenes. Additionally, the script must establish a clear genre identity, leaving the audience with certainty about the film’s intended tone and style. These shortcomings become more pronounced in the second half. This departure disrupts the flow of the story, leaving certain aspects to be more developed and potentially confusing the audience. The script’s inability to provide a cohesive and focused narrative foundation diminishes the overall impact of the storytelling and weakens the film’s ability to engage its viewers effectively.

Malaikottai Vaaliban Movie Review: Star Performance

Mohanlal dazzles as Malaikottai Vaaliban, bringing brilliance to the film. His remarkable talent and unwavering conviction shine through, effortlessly embodying the enchanting charm required to plunge the audience into Lijo Jose Pellissery’s fantasy realm. Yet, amidst the mesmerizing performance, there are occasional lapses in the seamless transition between the demands of a warrior role, leaving room for improvement. In some fight sequences, Mohanlal’s performance must improve, hindering the seamless portrayal of Vaaliban’s strength. Moreover, the emotional nuances required to convey the depth of Vaaliban’s character sometimes need to be included, preventing the complete exploration of the character’s emotional journey. Despite these nuances, Mohanlal’s overall versatility contributes significantly to the film’s appeal.

The stellar supporting cast, featuring talents like Sonalee Kulkarni, Hareesh Peradi, Manoj Moses, and Katha Nandi, injects undeniable flair into the overall performance. Sonalee Kulkarni, in particular, dazzles with an impeccable portrayal, enriching the film’s brilliance. Hareesh Peradi and Manoj Moses, despite the challenges in specific emotional sequences, showcase commendable performances that enhance the overall dynamics of the narrative. Katha Nandi’s contribution, while not explicitly detailed, adds to the ensemble’s collective effort, creating a well-rounded and engaging viewing experience.

However, Danish Sait‘s performance as the antagonist, Chamathakan, is a mixed bag. While he aptly portrays the maniacal nature of the character, occasionally veering into overacting compromises the consistency of his portrayal. Sait navigates the fine line between madness and theatrics with precision for the most part, but there are instances where the intensity seems forced. Despite this, his debut in Malayalam cinema adds a layer of intrigue to the film’s character dynamics.

Malaikottai Vaaliban Movie Review: Direction, Music

Lijo Jose Pellissery’s directorial prowess in “Malaikottai Vaaliban” is a visual feast, showcasing a masterful command of cinematography and artistic flair. The film’s fantastical realm comes alive with vibrant imagery, a testament to Pellissery’s intentional framing and captivating shot selection. Yet, the dynamic direction faces hurdles with pacing and occasional script inconsistencies, challenging the expected narrative norms and impacting storytelling coherence. Despite these obstacles, Pellissery’s audacious vision boldly pushes the film beyond traditional period confines, steering it towards a fantasy-laden, fable-esque genre within a historical tapestry.

Prashant Pillai’s musical tapestry ignites the film’s narrative, weaving a dynamic blend of genres from classical and Western to Arabic and soulful melodies. The music harmonizes with the story’s mood effortlessly, elevating the cinematic experience. Yet, despite the impressive compositions, the music lacks the fiery impact needed to forge a profound emotional connection with the characters or the narrative. Despite this limitation, the soundtrack and Pellissery’s visual flair contribute to the film’s technical brilliance. The collaboration between direction and music successfully creates a visually grand and sonically engaging cinematic venture, even though some aspects may need to realize their potential fully.

Malaikottai Vaaliban Movie Review: The Last Word

Malaikottai Vaaliban showcases the technical brilliance of the collaboration between Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery. While the film’s visual and musical aspects impress, its extended duration, occasional inconsistencies, and writing hiccups might make it a mixed experience for audiences. Those appreciating fantasy action with patience for a slower narrative may find moments of brilliance in this creative venture.

What’s Good: Director Midhun adeptly concludes the film with a twist. The surprise cameo by Mammootty adds a highlight, leaving a lasting impression. Screenplay writer Dr. Randheesh Krishnan introduces engaging medical jargon, maintaining viewer engagement. Jayaram’s commendable performance and standout acts by supporting cast members enhance the film’s appeal.

What’s Bad: The initial sense of repetitiveness dampens thrills in the first half. The film’s execution must be more intense, with intriguing elements losing momentum. Clumsiness in certain scenes and less-polished dialogues contribute to a descent in the film’s overall impact.

Loo Break: Around the 59-minute mark, Jagadish is introduced at a hospital. Take a break only if absolutely necessary. If you can’t avoid a restroom break, make it quick; as the story unfolds rapidly, you won’t want to take advantage of crucial details.

Watch or Not?: For fans of Jayaram and Mammootty, ‘Abraham Ozler’ is a must-watch, blending medical thriller and emotional crime drama. Despite some flaws, the film captures attention and establishes Jayaram in a significant role.

Abraham Ozler Movie Review: Script Analysis

In the script analysis of ‘Abraham Ozler,’ the narrative introduces intriguing elements through the lens of a depressed police investigator, ACP Abraham Ozler, portrayed by Jayaram. Though a familiar trope in serial killer narratives, the recurring theme of leaving clues at crime scenes deviates from the commonly used Bible quotes. Screenplay writer Dr. Randheesh Krishnan skillfully incorporates medical jargon, providing depth to the storytelling and maintaining viewer engagement. However, despite these promising elements, the on-screen execution must improve the intended intensity. Over half of the puzzle is solved by the midpoint, resulting in a loss of momentum and leaving the latter part of the film with arduous anticipation for the revelation of the ‘what’ and ‘why.’ Mammootty’s character injects excitement but fails to revive the film’s energy fully, highlighting a pacing and impact discrepancy.

The script’s challenges are further compounded by occasional clumsiness in certain scenes and less-polished dialogues. While the protagonist’s challenges are introduced, they seem like a superficial addition once detailed in the epilogue, leaving the audience questioning the depth of substance for a potential sequel. The script hints at a need for a significant update to the serial killer template, suggesting that a more nuanced approach could enhance the film’s impact and potentially pave the way for a more compelling continuation.

Abraham Ozler Movie Review: Star Performance

Jayaram’s performance in ‘Abraham Ozler emerges as a standout element, anchoring the film with his portrayal of ACP Abraham Ozler. Despite a somewhat shaky first half, Jayaram successfully navigates the complexities of his character, effectively conveying the internal struggles of the brooding investigator. His commendable performance contributes significantly to the film’s appeal, establishing a significant character for him in Malayalam cinema after a hiatus. The emotional depth he brings to the role and a convincing portrayal of a determined investigator grappling with personal demons showcase Jayaram’s versatility as an actor.

Adding an unexpected layer of excitement to the film is the surprise role of Mammootty. The veteran actor’s presence is undoubtedly a highlight in ‘Abraham Ozler.’ Mammootty’s stylish appearance and compelling performance inject a thrilling dimension into the narrative, creating a buzz among fans. His unexpected contribution elevates the film and leaves a lasting impression, adding a touch of star power that enhances the cinematic experience.

Abraham Ozler Movie Review: Direction, Music

Director Midhun Manuel Thomas showcases his prowess in ‘Abraham Ozler through meticulous detailing and a visionary approach. Despite occasional clumsiness in certain scenes, Thomas distinguishes himself within the industry by delivering effective tactics, especially in the second half, where the film concludes with a twist that surpasses viewer expectations. His ability to blend the genres of medical thriller and emotional crime drama is evident, capturing the audience’s attention and establishing a connection with the audience.

The commendable background score in ‘Abraham Ozler elevates the film’s technical quality, enhancing the cinematic experience by complementing tense moments and emotional beats in the narrative. Despite flaws, the director’s adept use of music creates a compelling atmosphere, resonating with the story’s themes. Midhun Manuel Thomas’s direction and the notable background score add depth to ‘Abraham Ozler,’ enriching the audience’s viewing experience.

‘Abraham Ozler’ successfully merges medical thriller and emotional crime drama, with Jayaram delivering a commendable performance. While the film has flaws, standout performances make it a worthwhile watch for Mollywood enthusiasts.

Little Miss Rawther Movie Review ( Photo Credit – Wonderwall Media Network / YouTube )

What’s Good: The film stands out for its unique portrayal of a modern romantic dilemma and its seamless navigation between past and present. The thematic threads are skillfully tied up, revisiting key elements that serve as metaphors for adapting to imperfect situations. The movie exudes vibrant, youthful energy, especially in crafting scenes that capture the euphoria of profound conversations during moments of intoxication.

What’s Bad: Despite its quirks, ‘Little Miss Rawther’ lacks the emotional depth to engage the audience. There’s a disconnect, and the characters’ love story fails to evoke strong emotions. The film’s constant time-jumping contributes to uneven character development, leaving certain scenes needing to be more transparent and more cohesive from the intended message. Moments of potential profundity are often disrupted by jokes or insubstantial remarks, hindering the exploration of deeper themes.

Loo Break: The opportune moment for a loo break in “Little Miss Rawther” occurs approximately at the 1 hour and 23-minute mark. Following this point, a song ensues after a poignant and emotionally charged dialogue reflecting on fathers abandoning their children, drawing a metaphorical parallel to the plight of stray dogs.

Watch or Not?: ‘Little Miss Rawther’ is recommended for those who can relate to its unconventional themes and have experienced supporting friends through complex relationships. However, most viewers may need help to connect with the characters, making it less appealing to a broad audience.

‘Little Miss Rawther’ follows the unconventional love story of Abhijith (Shersha Sherief) and Naina Rawther (Gouri G Kishan), exploring their opposites-attract dynamic and the challenges they face as they navigate through young romance and adulthood. The film cleverly weaves between past and present, using flashbacks and film footage to capture the essence of their relationship.

Little Miss Rawther Movie Review ( Photo Credit – Wonderwall Media Network / YouTube )

Little Miss Rawther Movie Review: Script Analysis

Shersha Sherief, who serves as both the writer and one of the lead actors, demonstrates a subtle artistry in weaving narrative nuances into the fabric of ‘Little Miss Rawther.’ The script effectively explores the nature of love and compatibility, prompting contemplation on how individuals adapt to imperfect situations. The use of clever metaphors, such as Naina’s insistence on changing AB’s footwear, serves as a recurring theme that metaphorically mirrors the characters’ desire to conform to societal expectations. However, while the script introduces these thoughtful elements, it needs to improve creating a solid emotional impact. Moments of potential depth, such as AB’s recurring push-up routine or Naina’s Cinderella-esque ordeal, often stand out as isolated scenes rather than seamlessly contributing to the overall narrative, leaving the audience somewhat detached from the characters’ emotional journey.

Despite the script’s nuanced exploration of unconventional themes, it occasionally must maintain a consistent tone. The balance between humor and deeper contemplation is only sometimes well-executed, with certain scenes disrupted by jokes or insubstantial remarks. This detracts from exploring profound themes, hindering the script’s ability to evoke a sustained emotional connection with the audience.

Little Miss Rawther Movie Review: Star Performance

In ‘Little Miss Rawther,’ the lead actors, Shersha Sherief and Gouri G Kishan, deliver performances that fall in neutral territory, neither exceptionally impressive nor disappointingly subpar. Sherief, who also serves as the writer, brings a laid-back stoner demeanor to his character Abhijith, effectively capturing the essence of a character driven by his love for cinema. Kishan, portraying Naina Rawther, embodies her role’s meticulousness and sense of responsibility, contributing to the film’s exploration of opposites attracting in romantic relationships.

While both actors deliver solid performances, the constant time-jumping narrative and uneven character development limit their ability to establish a profound emotional connection with the audience. The lack of nuance in the characters affects the overall impact of their portrayals, leaving the performances in a middle ground where they neither elevate nor diminish the viewing experience. Despite the film’s quirks, the lead actors maintain a certain level of authenticity, contributing to its charm, albeit without reaching standout heights in their performances.

Little Miss Rawther Movie Review ( Photo Credit – Wonderwall Media Network / YouTube )

Little Miss Rawther Movie Review: Direction, Music

Vishnu Dev’s direction in ‘Little Miss Rawther’ showcases a skillful navigation of the film’s vibrant energy and quirkiness. The seamless transitions between past and present contribute to the overall charm of the storytelling, capturing the highs and lows of friendships and relationships. Dev successfully brings out the thematic richness of the narrative, especially in scenes depicting the unpredictable nature of profound conversations during moments of intoxication. The film’s unique take on modern romance benefits from Dev’s ability to capture the essence of youthful energy, creating an engaging visual experience.

However, the music in ‘Little Miss Rawther’ falls short of leaving a lasting impression. While it complements certain moments in the film, enhancing specific scenes, the soundtrack lacks the memorability that could elevate the overall viewing experience. A standout musical score is necessary for the emotional resonance of critical moments, preventing the music from becoming a memorable aspect of the film. Despite this shortcoming, Dev’s direction effectively contributes to the film’s quirkiness and thematic exploration.

Little Miss Rawther Movie Review: The Last Word

‘Little Miss Rawther’ unfolds as a distinctive stoner comedy-drama straying from conventional storytelling norms. Unapologetically delving into themes of premarital intimacy and amicable breakups, it provides a unique contrast to the prevalent violent narratives associated with Kerala. While the film may not resonate with everyone’s tastes, its standout portrayal of mutually consented breakups and the continuity of friendship post-separation sets it apart.

The visual aesthetics and transitions contribute to its distinct atmosphere, incorporating smartphone-recorded flashbacks and handheld camera shots for added quirkiness. Viewers must approach this film with the right mindset, particularly those who can relate to the complexities of supporting friends through intricate relationships, possibly amid the haze of intoxication.

Despite its attempt to mirror elements from ‘Rockstar (2011)’ by alluding to the term ‘dark’ and drawing inspiration from it, the film’s unconventional themes position it as a niche choice, recommended for those who appreciate cinematic deviations from the norm rather than being a universal crowd-pleaser.

The film skillfully captures the struggles of a Malayali family in North India, particularly in Banaras, offering a refreshing experience.

What’s Bad: ‘Falimy ‘Needs help to sustain performance consistency, exhibiting fluctuations in quality and engagement. The narrative needs a compelling force consistently, and despite efforts to evoke specific emotions, the film needs to elicit those feelings fully. The pacing falters towards the conclusion, and some scenes in the second half lag, affecting the overall impact.

Loo Break: Feel free to slip away during the mellows of a song around the 1- and 22-minute mark for a quick loo break.

Watch or Not?: Despite its shortcomings in writing, ‘Falimy’ is worth a watch for its well-crafted portrayal of middle-class life, natural humor, and strong performances. It offers an entertaining experience, especially in the first half, with relatable themes of family dynamics and aspirations.

Falimy Movie Review: Script Analysis

In his directorial debut, Nithish Sahadev demonstrates a keen eye for capturing the intricacies of human behavior through small instances and subtle actions. The script of ‘Falimy’ navigates the complexities of family dynamics, portraying the Thiruvananthapuram family’s journey to Varanasi with a mix of humor and emotional depth. The well-written, snarky dialogues contribute to the film’s overall charm, adding an absorbing layer to exploring ego clashes and conflicting motivations within the family. Despite occasional shortcomings in sustaining a consistent narrative force, Sahadev’s script successfully explores relatable themes of emotional conflicts, aspirations of the older generation, and the impact of age on individuals.

The engaging presentation mode in the first half keeps viewers entertained, emphasizing the script’s strength in delivering moments of laughter and joy. The dialogues between family members contribute significantly to the film’s appeal, providing a realistic portrayal of familial relationships and the challenges they face during their pilgrimage. While the script may need to improve in consistently maintaining a compelling force, it successfully captures the frustrations of a family trip, offering relatable insights into the human experience and the dynamics within a family unit.

While the script of “Falimy” exhibits occasional weaknesses, Nithish Sahadev’s earnest endeavor shines through in his adept portrayal of the characters’ emotional intricacies. Exploring human loneliness at different life stages enriches the script, with each character encapsulating distinctive struggles. Sahadev’s directorial approach, in conjunction with the hand, constructs a narrative that, despite its imperfections, captivates the audience through a skillfully crafted depiction of middle-class life, intertwining humor with poignant moments.

Falimy Movie Review: Star Performance

Basil Joseph leads the cast of ‘Falimy’ with a performance that, while reminiscent of his past roles, showcases his versatility in portraying a character dealing with anger, desperation, and sorrow. Despite occasional inconsistencies in maintaining the Thiruvananthapuram accent, Basil effectively conveys the complexities of his character, contributing to the overall emotional depth of the film. His natural charm and usual mannerisms align seamlessly with the requirements of the film, making him a fitting choice for the protagonist. Basil’s ability to strike the right balance of humor adds a layer of relatability to his character, resonating with audiences and enhancing the film’s entertainment value.

Jagadish and Manju Pillai deliver standout performances, consistently shining in their roles and playing crucial parts in connecting the movie with viewers. Their composed and grounded portrayals contribute significantly to the film’s strength, raising uncertainty about its impact without their commendable contributions. Jagadish, known for his ability to portray complex characters, delivers a distinctive performance in ‘Falimy,’ adding depth to the narrative. As the mother is caught between family egos, Manju Pillai emerges as a unifying force, providing stability amidst the chaos. The chemistry between these seasoned performers enhances the ensemble, making the star performances a notable film highlight.

Falimy Movie Review: Direction, Music

Nithish Sahadev’s directorial debut in ‘Falimy’ showcases a clear sense of direction, skillfully navigating the complexities of family dynamics and the challenges faced during a pilgrimage to Varanasi. While the film occasionally lacks a compelling force in its narrative, Sahadev’s ability to capture small instances and subtle actions of the characters contributes to the movie’s authenticity. Particularly commendable is his craft in depicting scenes set in Uttar Pradesh, offering a refreshing experience for viewers. Despite occasional pacing issues, Sahadev’s direction maintains a straightforward approach, avoiding excessive ambition and allowing the script’s strength and performances to shine through.

Cinematographer Bablu Aju’s visuals are crucial in keeping viewers engaged, especially in scenes set in North India. The precision with which Aju captures the struggles of a Malayali family in an unfamiliar territory adds depth to the narrative. The portrayal of Thiruvananthapuram slang and gestures in this unknown land is entertaining, showcasing Aju’s ability to enhance the film’s comedic essence. While the film may have flaws, Aju’s cinematography and Sahadev’s direction contribute to the overall visual appeal and narrative coherence.

Vishnu Vijay’s music in ‘Falimy’ is a saving grace, effectively elevating the film and preventing it from collapsing entirely. The music adds to the movie’s charm, maintaining energy levels and complementing the various moods portrayed on screen. Despite the film’s shortcomings, Vijay’s musical contributions enhance emotional moments and the overall entertainment value. The collaboration between Sahadev’s direction and Vijay’s music creates a cohesive audio-visual experience for the audience.

Falimy Movie Review: The Last Word

While ‘Falimy’ has the potential to be significantly better, it needs to hit top gear due to its inconsistencies. Nevertheless, it succeeds in portraying middle-class life with natural humor, making it a watchable experience with some delightful moments and a strong cast.

What’s Good: The documentary skillfully navigates through each murder, crafting well-framed scenes that subtly portray the family’s turmoil. Heartfelt statements from family members establish a subtle yet essential emotional connection with viewers.

What’s Bad: The condensed format, unusual for true-crime shows, limits the exploration of minute details in a case spanning 14 years, leaving viewers with lingering questions. The documentary falls short in delving deep into Jolly’s psyche, lacking authentic narratives from her early life in Kattappana.

Loo Break: Given the compact runtime, avoiding bathroom breaks is advisable to grasp the case’s intricacies fully. The narrative unfolds quickly, and missing even a short segment might lead to confusion.

Watch or Not?: For true crime enthusiasts and those unfamiliar with the extensive coverage of the case in 2019, ‘Curry & Cyanide’ provides a concise yet riveting overview. ‘Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case’ unravels a haunting true crime story set against the backdrop of Koodathayi, a picturesque town in Kerala, India. Over 14 years, six family members, including a two-year-old, meet tragic ends in a series of alleged poisoning murders. Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case Movie Review: Script Analysis

Shalini Ushadevi’s script for ‘Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case adeptly captures the intricacies of the chilling narrative, providing a systematic analysis of the events that unfolded over 14 years. The script navigates through each murder with precision, carefully crafting well-framed scenes that subtly portray the family’s turmoil. Ushadevi’s writing skillfully weaves the perspectives of key figures, including retired cop KG Simon, Jolly’s son Remo, Jolly’s sister-in-law Renji Wilson, and other family members, enhancing the viewer’s understanding of the case.

However, the script leaves room for improvement in exploring the psychological depths of Jolly’s character. While it highlights her proficiency in deception, exemplified by her forging degree certificates, there is a yearning for more authentic narratives, particularly from her early life in Kattappana. A more in-depth exploration of Jolly’s psyche could have added layers to the report, providing a deeper understanding of her motives and the underlying causes of her criminal inclinations.

Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case Movie Review: Star Performance

Renji, portrayed as the true hero in ‘Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case,’ delivers a standout performance that resonates throughout the documentary. Her unwavering resilience, pursuit of justice, and expression of genuine emotions, including tear-filled eyes, shine through, making her a compelling and relatable figure for the audience. Renji’s portrayal adds a layer of emotional depth to the narrative, especially as she takes on the responsibility of protecting her brother’s children and seeks justice despite facing resistance. Her teary-eyed recollections of the horrific times, coupled with a palpable sense of contentment in saving her brother’s children from further suffering, make Renji a central and impactful presence in the documentary.

Remo, Jolly’s elder son, also contributes significantly. His portrayal adds a dimension of strength and resilience to the narrative, showcasing how he remains steadfast during unimaginably tough times. In the later stages of the documentary, Remo notably shifts from referring to Jolly as ‘amma’ (Malayalam word for mom) to using ‘Ningal’ or ‘bhakti.’ Initially, he addressed her as ‘amma.’ This change in Remo’s choice of address offers a unique perspective, providing a poignant glimpse into the complex dynamics within the family. His ability to stand firm and support his aunt, Renji, highlights the enduring familial bonds despite the tragic circumstances.

Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case Movie Review: Direction, Music

Helmed by National Award winner Christo Tomy, the direction of ‘Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case’ stands out for its skillful framing and portrayal of the complex narrative. Tomy adeptly navigates through each murder, capturing the family’s turmoil with precision. Noteworthy are the frames that subtly depict the unsettling darkness within the Ponnamattam family, even when showcasing the lush greenery of Idukki, Jolly’s hometown. This intentional contrast creates an atmosphere of unease, complementing the gravity of the true-crime narrative. Tomy’s choice to condense the documentary into a feature-film duration of just 1.30 hours, while unusual for the genre, adds a sense of urgency and impact to the storytelling, even though it leaves some lingering questions in the minds of viewers due to the case’s extensive 14 years span.

Tushar Lall’s music score in ‘Curry & Cyanide’ plays a crucial role in maintaining the documentary’s sensitive treatment of the subject matter. Lall’s compositions convey a sense of emotional depth that complements the gravity of the true-crime narrative. The peripheral presence of the score enhances the overall viewing experience, subtly underscoring key moments without overshadowing the storytelling. This nuanced approach to the music aligns well with the documentary’s focus on presenting the facts and emotional impact of the Jolly Joseph case without sensationalism.

Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case Movie Review: The Last Word

Curry & Cyanide offers a gripping glimpse into the Jolly Joseph case, skillfully navigating the complex narrative within a compact runtime. While it excels in portraying the family’s pain and the investigative process, it falls short in providing a comprehensive exploration of Jolly’s psyche. Viewers seeking a detailed examination may turn to alternative formats, but this documentary is a compelling watch for a concise overview.

Review of 'Phoenix'
Review of ‘Phoenix’ Is Out! (Picture Credit: IMDb)

What’s Good: “Phoenix” breaks free from traditional horror tropes, focusing on the emotion of longing rather than vengeful spirits. The screenplay skillfully intertwines a love story with a deadly cholera outbreak, creating a unique and nuanced narrative. The deliberate pace and avoidance of excessive jump scares contribute to the film’s eerie atmosphere.

What’s Bad: While the film successfully explores complex themes, the romantic exchanges between Freddy and Anna sometimes suffer from an overly dramatic tone. An attempt to present Freddy in a positive light feels unnecessary, given his self-centered nature. The first half is marred by an excessive use of suspenseful music, potentially disrupting the viewing experience for some.

Loo Break: Around the 47-minute mark, there is a sequence involving a hospital visit and a conversation with the priest about the family’s predicament. This part of the film offers a temporary shift in focus from the main horror elements and provides an opportunity for a brief break. If nature calls or if you need a moment to stretch, consider taking a short break during this hospital and priest visit sequence. Just ensure you return promptly to catch the evolving mysteries and eerie atmosphere as the story unfolds.

Watch or Not?: “Phoenix” sets a new standard for Malayalam horror films, captivating with familiar tropes presented uniquely. If you appreciate horror narratives embedded in poignant love stories, this film is a must-watch. The careful blend of fear and intrigue, coupled with exceptional technical prowess, makes it a compelling cinematic experience.

Set in the 90s, the film follows Advocate John Williams and his family as they move into a beach-adjacent house, only to be haunted by the spirit of Rose, yearning for her lost love, Freddy. Phoenix Movie Review: Script Analysis

Midhun Manuel Thomas’s screenplay for “Phoenix” marks a refreshing departure from the typical horror narrative, placing a significant emphasis on the emotion of longing instead of relying on conventional vengeful spirits or possessed entities. The choice to intertwine the horror elements with a deadly cholera outbreak introduces layers of complexity to the storyline, deviating from the predictable paths often trodden in the genre. This distinctive approach enriches the narrative, resonating particularly with those who have confronted challenges presented by real-world pandemics, notably the recent struggles with the coronavirus. By delving into themes of love, loss, and the yearning for reunion against the backdrop of a historical catastrophe, the script strikes a profound chord, offering a horror experience that is nuanced and emotionally resonant for the audience.

Although Midhun’s screenplay adeptly steers clear of the usual reliance on excessive jump scares, it doesn’t hesitate to craft spine-chilling moments. The deliberate pacing and meticulous groundwork for impending horror showcase the filmmaker’s intention to instill fear not only through the spirit’s resurgence but also through scenes depicting the masses grappling with the cholera outbreak. This strategic choice contributes to the film’s ability to captivate audiences without relying solely on visual effects or cheap thrills. However, the script’s attempt to present Freddy in a more positive light, despite his self-centered nature, introduces an unnecessary element that could have been handled differently. This decision slightly dilutes the intensity of the horror narrative and adds a layer of melodrama to the romantic exchanges between Freddy and Anna.

Amid occasional hiccups, Midhun’s screenplay adeptly constructs a narrative that defies conventional horror norms, delving into intricate and nuanced plots. The deliberate choice to center the supernatural occurrences around the emotion of longing distinguishes “Phoenix” from its genre counterparts. In its entirety, the script plays a substantial role in the film’s triumph, presenting a contemplative and inventive storytelling approach within the horror genre.

Phoenix Movie Review: Star Performance

“Phoenix” boasts a stellar ensemble cast that delivers commendable performances, elevating the film beyond the typical horror genre standards. Aju Varghese, known for his prowess in comedic roles, impressively showcases his versatility as Advocate John Williams. Varghese adeptly conveys tension and portrays nuanced shades, proving that he can handle character roles with depth and intensity. His performance goes beyond expectations, leaving a lasting impression and underscoring his ability to transition seamlessly between genres.

Nilja K Baby, in the role of Daisy, brings precision to her performance, effectively portraying the complexities of a strained marital relationship. Despite limited screen time, Anoop Menon deviates from his usual roles to deliver a memorable portrayal as a priest, showcasing his acting range. Chandhunadh and Bhagath Manuel equally contribute to the film’s success, earning commendation for their roles in navigating the mysteries surrounding Freddy and Anna. However, it is Abhirami Bose, in the role of Anna Rose, who truly steals the spotlight. Despite encountering some cheesy dialogues, Bose skillfully transcends this flaw, radiating sophistication and effectively conveying the emotion of yearning in a flawless manner. Her captivating performance adds depth to the film’s emotional core and establishes her as a talent to watch in the industry.

Chandhunadh, in the role of Freddy, delivers a praiseworthy performance, presenting a striking appearance and a captivating smile that positions him as a promising leading man in Mollywood. His portrayal suggests the potential to ascend as a rising star with subsequent opportunities. The young artists also skillfully contribute to the film, portraying their roles with genuine conviction. In totality, the stellar performances in “Phoenix” play a pivotal role in the film’s triumph, with each actor delivering their best and collaboratively crafting a compelling and immersive cinematic experience.

Phoenix Movie Review: Direction, Music

In his inaugural foray into directing, Vishnu Bharathan asserts his mark with a deft touch in steering “Phoenix.” Melding the realms of horror and romance seamlessly, Bharathan skillfully constructs an eerie realm that engrosses viewers throughout the film’s entirety. The palpable tension within the characters and the enthralling atmospheric scenes underscore Bharathan’s adeptness in crafting a compelling narrative. The transitions between the contemporary haunting and the evocative depictions of a bygone reality are particularly captivating, a testament to the editing finesse exhibited by Nithish KTR.

The musical score by Sam CS significantly enhances the overall viewing experience of “Phoenix.” Especially noteworthy is the impactful background music that effectively builds tension and fear in the first half of the film. Despite occasional loudness, the background music complements the eerie atmosphere, contributing to the film’s success in creating a sense of dread. The soulful tracks, including the standout “Ennile Punchiri” performed by KS Chithra and Kapil Kapilan, linger in the hearts of the audience well beyond the movie’s conclusion. Sam CS’s contribution to the film’s sonic landscape aligns seamlessly with the tone.

Phoenix Movie Review: The Last Word

“Phoenix” transcends the ghosts of Malayalam horror, setting a new standard with its unique treatment of familiar tropes. Despite minor flaws, the film emotionally captivates, leaving viewers longing for the tension and fear experienced in its initial half. A promising debut for Vishnu Bharathan and a testament to the evolving landscape of Malayalam cinema.

What’s Good: Mohanlal’s versatile performance as Advocate Vijayamohan anchors the movie, showcasing commendable preparation and immersion in the character. The initial half captivates with compelling courtroom scenes, notably Siddique’s portrayal of the defense lawyer.

What’s Bad: The film needs to improve in maintaining balance, with exaggerated situations and an unnecessarily extended latter portion. Some scenes feel overly dramatic and need more authenticity, deviating from the genuine storytelling expected in Malayalam films.

Loo Break: Consider a loo break during the scene where Jagadish, portraying the victim’s father, goes around lawyers to seek representation for his daughter in court.

Watch or Not?: While the acting is commendable, ‘Neru’ falls short of the distinctive twists associated with Jeethu Joseph’s films. The film’s potential for massive success remains determined, and its predictability may leave audiences expecting more.

‘Neru' Review - A Gripping Tale of Justice and Emotions
Neru Movie Review(Photo Credit –IMDb)

Neru Movie Review: Script Analysis

The collaborative script by Santhi Mayadevi and Jeethu Joseph encounters a narrative dichotomy in ‘Neru.’ On one hand, the film captures the nuances of an advocate’s journey, mainly through Mohanlal’s portrayal of Advocate Vijayamohan.

The initial half thrives on compelling courtroom scenes, delving effectively into the complexities of the legal system. However, the script needs to improve in maintaining this balance, succumbing to exaggerated situations and an extended latter portion introducing suspense elements seemingly for plot prolongation.

This imbalance may be attributed to the high expectations of Malayalam films, known for their genuine storytelling. It marks a noticeable departure from the authentic narrative style usually associated with director Jeethu Joseph.

Furthermore, the film grapples with the challenge of recreating the excitement and intricate plot twists Joseph is known for, especially in works like ‘Drishyam,’ ‘Memories’ and ‘Kooman.’

The constraints of depicting courtroom proceedings may have limited the director’s ability to infuse the same level of excitement, resulting in a noticeable shift from the anticipated storytelling prowess. Although ‘Neru’ successfully captures the emotional dimension of the characters, sustaining momentum becomes a struggle, leaving the script analysis in a nuanced position where commendable elements coexist with moments of imbalance and predictability.

The plot of ‘Neru’ undergoes scrutiny due to questionable elements, generating initial skepticism. The portrayal of a blind person, Sara, recreating a sculpture by touching someone’s face, especially in the context of a stressful situation like se*ual abuse, raises believability concerns and questions the film’s treatment of the protagonist’s abilities. Additionally, in a scene where Mohanlal‘s character, special public prosecutor Vijayamohan, presents an image from dashcam footage in court, it needs more conviction, challenging the audience’s intelligence. Typically, a clear view of someone inside a car through a windshield is challenging due to glare and movement. While the film attempts to justify the footage’s preservation for eight months with a backstory explaining the owner’s absence abroad and infrequent car usage, the overall plausibility of such a scenario still needs to be determined. These plot issues introduce elements that may strain the audience’s suspension of disbelief, impacting the overall narrative coherence.

Neru Movie Review: Star Performance

Mohanlal’s star performance in ‘Neru’ is a pivotal anchor for the film. Taking on the role of Advocate Vijayamohan, a once-debarred lawyer who has been out of the courtroom for years but makes a comeback as a public prosecutor, Mohanlal showcases commendable versatility and thorough preparation. His seamless immersion into the character contributes significantly to the movie’s appeal, breathing life into the complexities of a legal professional. Mohanlal’s portrayal brings a refreshing dimension to the film, elevating it beyond a thriller and adding depth to the emotional courtroom drama. His ability to convey the nuances of a lawyer on a quest for justice resonates with the audience, affirming his status as a veteran actor capable of delivering compelling performances.

Alongside Mohanlal, Anaswara Rajan stands out with her convincing portrayal of Sara, a blind sculptor seeking justice. Anaswara effectively captures the vulnerability and resilience of her character, bringing authenticity to the role of a visually impaired victim navigating the legal system’s challenges. The chemistry between Mohanlal and Rajan adds emotional weight to the narrative, enhancing the overall impact of their performances. Siddique’s portrayal of the defense lawyer also deserves mention, as he convincingly embodies the role of an antagonist, creating a palpable tension in the courtroom scenes. The star performances collectively contribute to the film’s engaging dynamics, although specific locations may veer into dramatic territory.

‘Neru' Review - A Gripping Tale of Justice and Emotions
Neru Movie Review(Photo Credit –IMDb)

Neru Movie Review: Direction, Music

In terms of direction, Jeethu Joseph, renowned for his intricate plot twists in films like ‘Drishyam,’ faces a commendable challenge in ‘Neru.’ The movie starts strong, particularly in the initial half, with Joseph effectively capturing the nuances of compelling courtroom scenes.

His direction skillfully navigates the complexities of the legal system, presenting a riveting portrayal of a blind girl seeking justice. However, as the narrative progresses, the film encounters challenges in maintaining this balance, introducing unnecessarily extended suspense elements in the latter portion that seem more to prolong the plot than enhance its depth. While Joseph’s signature storytelling style is evident in captivating moments, the overall direction needs to sustain the same level of excitement seen in his previous works, possibly constrained by the inherent difficulties of depicting courtroom proceedings.

On the musical front, the background score in ‘Neru’ enhances the film’s ambiance and emotional impact. It begins well, remaining unintrusive and effectively contributing to the overall tone of the scenes. However, a misstep occurs in the final shots, where loud and intrusive background music is introduced.

This addition, seemingly aiming to underscore the triumph of good over evil, feels unnecessary and disrupts the previously established balance. Despite this minor setback, the music elevates the emotional stakes of the narrative for most of the film, complementing the direction in creating a compelling cinematic experience.

Neru Movie Review: The Last Word

‘Neru’ offers a gratifying cinematic experience, marking Mohanlal’s triumphant return to severe roles. Beyond entertainment, it emphasizes justice for those who can substantiate their case. However, the film’s predictability and deviations from genuine storytelling may leave some viewers wanting more.

Note: The release of ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’ just a day after ‘Neru’ could pose a challenge for the film, given limited promotion and uncertain predictions for its outcome.

Star Cast: Joju George, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Chemban Vinod Jose, Nyla Usha

Antony Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – IMDb )

What’s Good: Joju George’s robust performance as Antony stands out, breathing life into a character that remains captivating despite its shades of grey. The on-screen chemistry between Joju and Chemban Vinod Jose injects warmth into the film. The portrayal of strong female characters, particularly Kalyani Priyadarshan’s MMA-trained Ann Maria, adds depth to the narrative.

What’s Bad: Lackluster writing hampers the film’s potential, with underdeveloped characters and contrived situations. The antagonists, despite elaborate introductions, the antagonists fade away towards the end, leaving the climax feeling rushed. The film struggles to evoke necessary emotions in crucial scenes due to shallow writing.

Loo Break: Around the 1-hour and 10-minute mark, a brief interlude occurs with a Christian song lasting only around 2 minutes. This moment provides a convenient window for a quick restroom break. Use this time wisely to avoid missing any crucial plot points or character developments.

Watch or Not?: Antony” offers a blend of action and emotion, making it a decent watch for fans of the genre. Despite its flaws, Joju George’s performance and Joshiy’s distinctive style somewhat salvage the film. If you can overlook the shortcomings in writing, it provides about 2 hours and 15 minutes of entertainment.

‘Antony’ delves into the titular character’s life, Antony Anthrapper, a complex criminal navigating through the tumult of Avaran City. Shaped by tragic circumstances, Antony’s story takes an unexpected turn when he assumes guardianship of Ann Maria, the daughter of a man he killed. The narrative explores the paternal bond between the brooding goon and the feisty Ann Maria, blending action elements with a poignant ‘father-daughter’ storyline.

Antony Movie Review: Script Analysis

Rajesh Varma’s script for ‘Antony’ attempts to infuse a blend of action and emotion into the narrative, custom-fitted for Joju George’s character portrayal. While the premise holds promise with a brooding hero navigating a complex, morally ambiguous world, the execution falls short due to lackluster writing. Underdeveloped characters and contrived situations hinder the film’s potential, and the attempt to compensate with dialogues proves ineffective. The script struggles to evoke necessary emotions in crucial scenes, particularly in the initial act, where character introductions lack authenticity. The ‘troubled individual turned goon’ theme and the exploration of a paternal bond Is anchored to a well-worn storyline. The shortcomings in the script are evident in the treatment of antagonists, who, despite elaborate build-ups, fade away towards the climax, leaving the resolution feeling rushed.

Antony Movie Review: Star Performance

Joju George’s performance in ‘Antony’ stands as a compelling highlight, breathing life into the multifaceted character of Antony Anthrapper. Known for his adeptness in portraying nuanced characters, Joju once again showcases his excellence in navigating Antony’s intricate shades of grey. Despite sharing similarities with his role in Joshiy’s previous work, ‘Porinju Mariam Jose,’ Joju ensures that Antony emerges as a distinct and authentic character. His portrayal effectively captures the compassion of a businessman/gangster dedicated to defending the vulnerable and nuanced performance, contributing to the emotional resonance of the ‘father-daughter’ narrative and enriching the overall viewing experience.

Chemban Vinod Jose contributes significantly to the film’s success with his commendable performance, adding depth to the narrative. As the local church priest and mediator in the lives of the faithful, Chemban’s on-screen chemistry with Joju George injects warmth into the film. His character is pivotal in Antony’s life, offering guidance and moral support.

Kalyani Priyadarshan delivers a remarkable performance as Ann Maria, the MMA-trained college student with a penchant for settling disputes with her fists. Convincingly portraying the tomboy character, Kalyani shines within the confines of her role, bringing energy and authenticity to the screen. Her physical efforts and openness to exploring diverse characters are evident in her portrayal, making Ann Maria a memorable and dynamic presence in the film. The evolution of Antony and Ann Maria’s relationship, from initial tolerance to her eventually addressing him as ‘Appa,’ is a testament to Kalyani’s ability to convey both sweetness and cringe-worthy moments with finesse. Despite certain abrupt emotional transitions, Kalyani’s performance adds depth to the film’s exploration of relationships.

Antony Movie Review: Direction, Music

Director Joshiy’s execution in ‘Antony’ plays a pivotal role in salvaging the film, showcasing his distinctive style from the very opening shot. While the narrative may not rank among Joshiy’s standout works, his skill in the craft remains evident throughout. The director adeptly handles the actors, emphasizing their unique strengths, particularly in mass and action sequences. Joshiy creates a visual space for Joju George to portray the ethos of Antony, a character embodying both good and evil, authentically. Simultaneously, he ensures that Ann Maria’s character isn’t merely portrayed as someone living under Antony’s protection, granting her genuine agency and exhilarating moments. Despite the film’s narrative shortcomings, Joshiy’s efforts contribute to the film’s overall watchability.

In contrast to Joshiy’s commendable direction, the music in ‘Antony’ falls short of expectations. Jakes Bejoy, who garnered acclaim for numerous impressive tracks in the past, disappoints in this film. The music fails to complement the narrative’s intensity or enhance emotional moments. Despite the film’s action-packed sequences, the soundtrack lacks the necessary punch to elevate the viewing experience. The absence of compelling musical elements is astonishing, given Bejoy’s previous successes, contributing to a missed opportunity to enhance the film’s overall impact.

Although the music faltered, the cinematography and editing teams, led by Renadive and Shyam Sasidharan, respectively, delivered decent performances. The visual elements complement Joshiy’s directorial style, capturing the grit and intensity of the narrative. The collaboration between the cinematographer and editor contributes to the film’s overall aesthetic appeal, compensating to some extent for the shortcomings in the music department.

Antony Movie Review: The Last Word

‘Antony’ stands as a gritty tale with flawed execution. While it may not rank among Joshiy’s best works, it offers moments of entertainment, primarily driven by Joju George’s compelling performance. Despite its narrative shortcomings, the film manages to leave an impression, albeit not a lasting one.

Garudan Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – IMDb )

What’s Good: Director Arun Varma’s debut impresses with a swift narrative and a strategic placement of lead actors. Suresh Gopi delivers a no-nonsense portrayal, complemented by Biju Menon’s nuanced performance as Nishanth. Jagadish stands out with a compelling performance, adding depth to the supporting cast. The film successfully generates thrills without resorting to graphic visuals, thanks to Jakes Bejoy’s discerning music.

What’s Bad: While the screenplay unfolds seamlessly, the second half feels rushed, impacting the climax. The film, at times, leans on predictable moments due to Suresh Gopi’s established cop image, potentially diminishing script unpredictability. Cinematographer Ajay David Kachappilly’s excessive use of colors becomes distracting, despite a seamless convergence in the crucial final reveal.

Loo Break: A suitable loo break can be taken after the courtroom scene where Nishanth is initially proven not guilty. This provides a momentary pause in the intense legal drama before the narrative takes a darker turn.

Watch or Not?: “Garudan” is a must-watch for fans of legal thrillers and murder mysteries. The film’s engaging plot, stellar performances, and well-crafted suspense make it a worthwhile cinematic experience. But the ending is a bit a logical and irrational

It strategically introduces key characters, such as DCP Harish Madhav and Nishanth Kumar, setting the stage for a gripping conflict. The character dynamics and motivations are skillfully portrayed, with the courtroom setting providing a platform for intense confrontations. The script delves into the personal lives of the characters, adding depth to their actions and decisions. While it takes cinematic liberties to navigate legal proceedings, the script effectively builds tension and suspense, culminating in a climactic revelation. The psychological nuances revealed in the latter part of the story add a layer of complexity, showcasing the script’s ability to blend legal drama with elements of psychological thriller.

Garudan Movie Review: Direction, Music

Arun Varma’s directorial choices in “Garudan” earn praise for their overall impact on the film’s atmosphere and storytelling. Varma adeptly maneuvers through the narrative, seamlessly blending elements of a legal thriller and psychological suspense. Notably, his decision to abstain from depicting explicit assault scenes is commendable, allowing the film to generate suspense through skillful direction rather than relying on graphic visuals. However, the excessive use of colors by cinematographer Ajay David Kachappilly is a notable drawback, occasionally distracting from the storytelling. Despite this, Varma succeeds in creating a compelling interval block and orchestrating a crucial final reveal that ties together the film’s writing, staging, and performances.

Jakes Bejoy’s musical contributions to “Garudan” play a crucial role in enhancing the film’s suspenseful atmosphere. The discerning use of music throughout the narrative effectively generates thrills and tension, compensating for the absence of explicit visuals in certain scenes. Bejoy’s score complements the director’s vision, contributing to the overall immersive experience. While the visual treatment may have its distractions, the music successfully contributes to the film’s emotional resonance, particularly in key moments that shape the storyline.

Garudan Movie Review: The Last Word

In the final analysis, “Garudan” emerges as a commendable addition to the legal thriller genre, weaving a gripping narrative anchored by stellar performances from Suresh Gopi and Biju Menon. Director Arun Varma’s adept navigation through the complexities of the plot, despite some visual distractions, showcases promise for his future in the industry. While the script encounters pacing issues in the second half, the film compensates with numerous intriguing twists that keep the audience engaged. Jakes Bejoy’s discerning musical score further elevates the suspenseful atmosphere, contributing to the overall immersive experience. Despite its flaws, “Garudan” delivers on its promise of suspense, making it a compelling watch for fans of the genre.
